Your attention is invited to a video fragment of the report of Ph.D. Alisa Sharova, which focuses on the limitations and complications of the use of fillers in patients suffering from the most common endocrine diseases - hypothyroidism, thyrotoxicosis and diabetes mellitus.

You can read the report in more detail in the material Complications of fillers in patients with endocrinopathies: causes and treatment strategy

Typical complications after fillers injection: causes, endocrine pathology, treatment strategy.

Endocrinological diseases cause pronounced changes in the cell matrix and skin immunity.

In patients with hypothyroidism, typical complications are soft tissue swelling, drug contouring in the skin, and longer biodegradation of the filler.

A completely opposite phenomenon - an accelerated breakdown of hyaluronic acid - is observed in patients with thyrotoxicosis.

All patients suffering from endocrine diseases have an increased risk of infection and inflammatory reactions after the introduction of fillers. These reactions are pronounced in patients with diabetes, especially in poorly compensated diabetes. We want to note that this is not a contraindication. In such cases, before starting programs to correct age-related changes with fillers, it is advisable to prescribe a short preventive course, which may include:

  • broad-spectrum antibiotics;
  • anti-inflammatory therapy (non-steroidal or steroidal drugs);
  • vasoprotective agents.
NB! Deep periosteal insertion of fillers is strictly prohibited.

Especially characteristic additional risk factors in diabetes are neurotrophic and microvascular disorders. Only a careful examination of the patient, assessment of possible risks and prevention of complications allow the successful implementation of injection procedures.
