Who is suitable for and what problems does facial peeling with glycolic acid eliminate

Glycolic acid – a representative of the group of alpha hydroxy acids, which, due to its low molecular weight, the possibility of application for any type of skin, as well as its triple action (anti-aging, anti-inflammatory, protective), is used as part of superficial and median peels.

Glycolic acid:

  • provides exfoliation;
  • reduces the thickness of the stratum corneum of the epidermis;
  • smoothes skin relief;
  • stimulates the division of fibroblasts;
  • stimulates the synthesis of type I collagen;
  • moisturizes the skin.

Glycolic acid is used in peels in the following concentrations:

  • 5–40% (superficial peels); peeling with this concentration of glycolic acid is recommended for young skin, it acts only on the epidermal layer and eliminates minor skin imperfections;
  • 45–80% (most often – 50%); such peels are called median and are used to correct deeper skin defects, including age-related ones.

Peelings based on this substance in cosmetology are used to solve the problems of acne, shallow scars, stretch marks, hyperpigmentation, hyperkeratosis, wrinkles, seborrhea, deterioration in the quality and relief of the skin, photoaging.

The skin needs to be prepared for the medium peeling. After exclusion of individual intolerance to the drug, which is determined by applying the active substance to the inner surface of the elbow, you can proceed to pre-peeling preparation.

Pre-peeling preparation starts a week before the mid-peeling procedure and is carried out with the help of a product containing glycolic acid in a low concentration (5-10%). A preparation selected by a specialist is applied to the face daily.
