The disturbed process of uric acid metabolism with its increased concentration in the body is called hyperuricemia. With this failure, the composition of uric acid in the blood exceeds 6.5 mg/dL in men and 6.0 mg/dL in women. Elevated uric acid and its incorrect metabolism are among the risks of kidney failure in the population.

The occurrence of such disorders is influenced by factors that can be combined into several groups, the central of which is the way of life of a person. For more information about what these factors are and how they specifically affect the circulation of uric acid and its volume in the blood, read our article.

What are the causes of elevated uric acid?

As we said above, the exchange of uric acid in the body can be disturbed under the influence of several groups of factors. We are talking about the results of an incorrect lifestyle, the active influence of individual circumstances of the external environment and hereditary risks. They are the reasons for the excess of uric acid in the body.

They should not be overlooked, as elevated uric acid can have a negative impact on some processes in the body. For example, increase the risk of kidney disorders, lead to the accumulation of uric acid salts and contribute to the further development of hypertension.

Risk factors for high uric acid in the body:

  • heredity;
  • overweight;
  • consumption of a large number of meat dishes;
  • excessive strain on the muscles;
  • chronic hypoxia of tissue cells;
  • alcoholism;
  • accumulation of lead in the body.

More about the effects of high uric acid factors

Each of these factors has its own effect on the body. Excessive alcohol consumption both stimulates the formation of uric acid and, conversely, blocks its excretion. This, in turn, can lead to the presence of elevated uric acid and the occurrence of urate dysmetabolism.

Overeating also leads to an increase in uric acid. An interesting historical example can be given here. During periods of war, when people were malnourished, the incidence of gout fell, while during years of prosperity there were outbreaks of the disease.

And one more aggressive factor – lead accumulation. We will consider it in more detail in the next paragraph. However, it is worth noting here that an amount of lead in the body of 9.94-19.87 µg/dl is undesirable.

Lead – another factor of increased uric acid in the body

Elevated levels of lead in the body, in the range above, can exacerbate the effects of gout and increase blood pressure. We can also consider the influence of this factor on historical examples. Thus, gout was common among the London aristocrats who consumed wine stored in vessels made of lead-containing material.

The same was noted during the Prohibition period; in America, when people consumed hand-made whiskey with lead-soldered radiators. Based on various examples and data, it has been found that elevated uric acid can be caused by the accumulation of a large amount of lead in the body.

The following factors contribute to lead ingestion:

  • working with paint containing lead;
  • accommodation near a major highway;
  • eating food grown near highways;
  • consumption of water containing lead;
  • use of crockery and cutlery containing lead;
  • frequent application of cosmetics with elements of lead in the composition.

Therefore, in order to avoid increased uric acid in the body, you need to limit your contact with the listed environmental factors. Compliance with all the rules of maintaining a healthy lifestyle and timely treatment when symptoms of gout are detected can help to avoid complications and negative consequences of the influence of high uric acid.
