There are many places in Ukraine where you can spend holidays without spending fabulous sums, but at the same time recharge with good impressions for the whole year ahead. But where exactly do you go on vacation? There are enough options. We have selected for you the most interesting of them.

Uzhgorod: bathing in vats

Remember the fairy tale "Humpbacked Horse"? Her hero plunged into a cauldron of boiling water and emerged from there as a handsome man. You can repeat this fabulous trick if you go to the mountain village of Lushmory, which is located 52 km from Uzhgorod.

Here there is a natural source of mineral water with healing properties. Back in the 17th century, the first hydropathic – if you can call it that a barrel into which mineral water was poured, and then hot stones were thrown. The water was heated – and those who wished to take healing baths. It is unlikely that after bathing they became handsome, like Ivanushka from The Little Humpbacked Horse, but they improved their health for sure. After all, Lush Sea waters contain hydrogen sulfide, which  calms the nervous system and has a therapeutic effect in diseases of the musculoskeletal system.

Today in Lushmore, the barrel was replaced by huge vats – with a diameter of 2 meters and a volume of almost a thousand liters. Due to the fact that the containers are cast from porous cast iron, their edges are always cold. The vats are heated  on an open flame – in fact, people who take a mineral bath are "simmered" over low heat. At the bottom of the vats are stones that neutralize the heat, because the water temperature does not exceed 45 ° C. It is allowed to stay in such a bath for no longer than 15 minutes. After that, you can plunge into the cold mountain river Turichka. Feelings and impressions are unforgettable. Just imagine: you inhale the mountain air and bathe in warm water, and around the snow-covered Carpathians. A great way to spend New Year holidays in Ukraine!

Kherson: some like it hot

Resting in Europe at resorts with hot springs, where you can take therapeutic baths at any time of the year, will cost a round sum. But the same sources exist in Ukraine. One of them is located near Kherson, near the village of Iron Port.

We found this source by accident when we were drilling a well to extract oil or gas. At a depth of 1.5 thousand meters, layers of hot water were discovered. As it turned out later – enriched with iodine salts and other minerals. Today there are three baths: two with mineral hot water and one with therapeutic mud. Water temperature – 70 ° C, but so that you can swim in it, it is cooled to 30 ° C. By the way, the concentration of salt in this water is almost the same as in the Dead Sea. After a stormy New Year's Eve, and you can spend it in the Iron Port, just 15 km from the springs, take such a healing bath in the open air – an incomparable pleasure.

Ternopil: cave life

In the village of Zalesye, Ternopil region, there is one of the most beautiful caves in Ukraine. "Mlynki", as it is called, – horizontal labyrinth type gypsum cave 45 km long. More than 30 routes are open in it, but there are also unexplored ones. By the way, both in winter and in summer the same temperature is maintained in the cave – 9-10°C. Therefore, excursions are carried out here at any time and even celebrate the New Year among stalactites and stalagmites.

True, in order to cover the "glade" and spend time in comfort, you will have to bring everything you need to the labyrinth yourself. But the beauty of crystals flickering on the walls – white, yellow, red and even black – and unusual atmosphere compensate for all inconveniences. Housing can be rented directly in the village of Zalesye.

Zhytomyr: mysticism and romance in the castle

There is a city of Radomyshl in the Zhytomyr region, known mainly for the castle-museum located in the vicinity of the town. First, here in 1612 they built a "papirny" – factory for the production of paper for the printing house of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. The building was rebuilt and reconstructed until it acquired today's shape. Outside, the castle looks like a medieval fortification, and inside it – authentic interiors of the 17th-19th centuries.

Radomyshl Castle, as expected, is equipped with legends and secrets. They say that in its underground passages are stored stocks of old monastery wine, weapons to protect against the enemy, and even church treasures.

Radomyshl can boast of its own miracle – "weeping" stone. All year round, moisture appears on the surface of the rock and flows down to the ground with tears. You can stay at the castle itself. Comfort (the interior in the rooms is medieval, and the amenities are modern), romance (a fireplace, an alcove and the sound of a waterfall) and mysticism (a lot of legends are connected with the castle, which the guide will tell you about) – what else do you need for an unforgettable vacation ?

Mukacheve: wine by the river

If you are wondering where to spend the New Year holidays in Ukraine, you should know that people in Transcarpathia know how to grow grapes and make good wine. It is not surprising that many connoisseurs of this noble drink live here. It is they who traditionally organize the festival "Red Wine" for the Old New Year.

Why in January? The fact is that it was at this time that the wine of the previous year's harvest acquires its best properties and taste. This year, during two festival days (January 13-14) in the very center of the city, everyone will be able to taste the wines of the best Transcarpathian winemakers and buy local strong drinks for future use.

At this time, the New Year celebrations will not end yet, so the wine festival will smoothly turn into mass festivities. Contests, songs and dances, carol singing and funny pranks – all this awaits you at the festival.
