Children's sandbox: what is the danger of a harmless game in the yard

Of course, not every children's sandbox is dangerous for a child. If you live in a private house and created a playground yourself, closed from strangers and animals, you can be sure that it is safe for your baby.

However, many of us live in apartment buildings – and a sandbox in the yard. In this case, you can not be sure that the usual game with sand will not end with a visit to the doctor. Moreover, there are some diseases that are also dangerous for adults.

So, here are the dangers of the sandbox:

1. Toxoplasmosis – it is carried by cats. Both street and home. And very often they choose sand on the site for their natural needs. In general, this is not a dangerous disease for a child and an adult, but if there is a pregnant woman in the family, then this is a big risk for her. Toxomlasmosis leads to miscarriages, causes fetal development disorders.

2. Helminths – they are also brought into the sandbox by all the same street cats, as well as dogs or birds. Together with dirty hands, worm eggs will fall into food or immediately into the mouth – and infection will occur.

3. Tetanus – you can become infected with spores of this disease by injuring yourself on various metal objects or boards. Very often, various small metal objects (for example, nails) can be buried in the sand. On such items, disputes can live for more than one year, and if a child is accidentally injured by them – then infection is inevitable.

4. Used syringes – another very real danger. And, of course, they were not used for therapeutic injections, but for the introduction of drugs. You can get infected from them with anything, because drug addicts, most often, use one syringe several times or “dividing” it. it for several people. If a child is accidentally injured by a needle, then you should immediately wipe the injection site with alcohol, treat with iodine – and go to the hospital. Wrap the syringe in a plastic bag and take it with you – for research in the laboratory.

5. Infections – here the "culprit" the infection will not be the sand itself, but the surrounding children. They play together, and if someone is sick, then everyone who has contact with such a child can get sick as a result. Therefore, be attentive to other children, and if someone is suspicious – it is better to refrain from playing in the sandbox, and just take a walk.

It would not be superfluous to tell the child that touching unfamiliar objects on the playground – it is forbidden. And wash your hands after every walk – pledge of health.

Also, it's best not to let your child snack while playing. If he gets hungry – go home for a bite to eat, where you can wash your hands well and everything around will be clean.

Scientific data show that stray dogs and cats can transmit about 50 dangerous diseases to humans.

Teach your child about basic hygiene and explain why you shouldn't pick up unfamiliar objects.

How to protect your child and prevent danger

Forbid your child to play in the sandbox – of course, not an option. But it is in your power to prevent and reduce the risk of danger!

To do this, follow these guidelines:

1. Be sure to do all vaccinations – right on time. This is the key to the resistance of the body's immune forces to infection, the presence of antibodies to fight many diseases.

2. Encourage your child to always wash their hands with soap and water after each walk.

3. A very young child needs to be monitored – so that he does not lick his fingers, shoulder blades or other toys while walking.

4. Make sure to inspect the sandbox – there are no foreign objects or potentially dangerous debris in it.

5. If the sandbox is located on the territory of your private house, then it is best to close access to it at night – a tarpaulin, film or wooden cover will do for this.

When going for a walk with a child, always take alcohol wipes, iodine, peroxide, and clean water with you. If the baby suddenly gets hurt, you will immediately provide first aid, and will not waste precious time on the way home.

If the abrasion is heavily soiled – gently rinse with hydrogen peroxide (3%). Bandages/napkins are not even needed for this procedure – pour in a thin stream directly from the vial. Atomic oxygen, released when the solution enters the wound, eliminates all microbes.

In the absence of hydrogen peroxide, you can wash the abrasion with a solution of potassium permanganate (1%). Note: it is forbidden to pour hydrogen peroxide into very deep wounds (to avoid embolism, in this case - air bubbles entering the blood stream).

The children's sandbox does not pose any danger in itself. However, people and yard animals pollute the sand – and there is a risk of injury, infection.

Used syringes, broken glass, helminth eggs, tetanus spores – all this may well be in ordinary sand. To prevent harmless children's play from causing problems, keep an eye on the child during a walk, inspect the sandbox, do not forget about hygiene rules and vaccinations.

Another guarantee of safety will be a shelter for the sandbox at night – this can be done with a tarpaulin, a thick film or a wooden cover.
