The desire to radically change the image and become, for example, a blonde sometimes visits every woman. But, unfortunately, any trichologist can tell a lot of sad stories about patients who came with the problem of hair falling out after unsuccessful lightening.

It's no secret that most of the products that help to get blond hair contain very aggressive ingredients. This does not stop some fans of blond curls, but in the pursuit of beauty, they are inattentive to the technologies and quality of coloring, and therefore subsequently come to the trichologist with complaints about falling hair. For others, the desire to lighten hair often remains unfulfilled due to fear of damaging the hair – and in vain, since a competent specialist will be able not only to assess the condition of the hair, but also to follow the dyeing technology, recommend strengthening procedures, and choose the right care to improve the health of the hair.

Why does my hair get lighter?

The color of our hair is given by the pigment melanin, which is contained in the hair shaft in the form of black-brown or yellow-red granules, due to which we have dark or blond hair of different shades.

In order for the hair color to change, the pigment melanin must be neutralized, and this is done by the oxidizing agents that are part of the lightening agents. As a result of a chemical oxidation reaction, melanin acquires the ability to dissolve in water and is partially washed out of the hair. The longer the brightening composition is on the hair, the deeper the oxidizing agent penetrates into the hair tissue, the less natural pigment remains in the hair  and the stronger the curls become discolored.

Alkaline clarifiers open the hair scales, letting the paint inside, and after clarification, a balm is applied to the hair, creating an acidic environment, while the hair scales close, keeping the acquired light shade.

What is the harm of bleaching hair?

Any hair lightening, whether it be toning or complete bleaching, breaks the structure of the hair. As a result of the oxidative reaction, the natural pigment is washed out of the hair and leaves voids in it, and therefore the hair becomes lighter. In addition, the effect of oxygen molecules during the oxidation and neutralization of melanin destroys the keratin chains of the hair, which leads to their fragility. If Climazone is used to intensely lighten the hair, the extra heat can soften the hair, making it more brittle and even damage the hair cuticle.

When lightening freshly washed hair, there may not be enough oil on the scalp, and as a result, a strong alkaline solution penetrates into the hair roots and weakens them, leading to hair loss.

How to lighten hair with the least loss?

Before lightening, it is necessary, first of all, to assess the condition of the hair as accurately as possible in order to choose the right level of strength of the lightening preparation and the exposure time. The percentage of oxidizing agent typically ranges from 1.5% to 12%. With very porous and light hair, the strength level of hydrogen peroxide or another oxidizing agent should be minimal, and with hard – can be increased up to 12%.

When lightening only the regrown part of the hair, the bleaching solution should be applied very precisely so as not to damage the previously dyed hair. Remember that a high percentage of oxidizing agent will not provide fast lightening, but will only help the lightening elements penetrate deeper into the hair tissue, damaging it. When lightening the hair, the composition is first applied to the entire length of the hair, and only after they are lightened to level 8 or 9, they begin to process the roots. The fact is that the temperature of the hair roots is higher, and therefore the oxidation reaction will be faster and the composition on the roots needs to be kept less, and the percentage of oxidizing agent for this part of the hair should be lower so as not to damage the hair and keep it healthy.

To lighten hair, oxidizing agents are usually used in the form of a powder, cream or oil-based product. Lightening paint on oil is the softest, creamy – less irritating to the skin, powder – the most intense.

What makes bleached hair look healthy?

If the alkaline environment was too strong for your hair when lightening your hair, and the protective scales could not close, an instant conditioner for blonde, bleached and highlighted hair will help, which is enriched with natural extracts of grapes and green tea, thanks to which it restores the scales and deeply moisturizes the hair, making it supple and shiny.

Try to lighten your hair in the salon by entrusting your hair to a master who is specially trained in the use of lightening products and has the proper certificate.

Careful observance of hair lightening technology and competent care will help you not to be afraid of hair brittleness and hair loss, but on the contrary, to have light and practically undamaged curls, shining with beauty and health.
