Anti-aging correction methods are experiencing a very rapid development today due to new scientific discoveries and technological developments. Mono-procedures are being replaced by an integrated approach to solving patient problems, which includes a combination of minimally invasive cosmetic methods and surgical interventions, supplemented by procedures using cellular technologies. Dmitry Slosser, plastic surgeon, head of the Oberig Beauty plastic surgery center, told estet-portal.com readers about the prospects for the development of cosmetology and about the opportunities that a competent combination of different methods in aesthetic medicine gives.

Do you think it is necessary to combine surgical and cosmetic techniques for anti-aging correction? Perhaps one of these approaches would suffice?

I believe that one approach is never enough. It is an integrated approach that shows the best results, and in anti-aging correction, many factors should always be taken into account, including competent preparation of the patient for plastic surgery and high-quality postoperative care. In this case, the effect of the simultaneous action is potentiated.

As we all know, the success of plastic surgery is almost 30% dependent on how the patient's skin was prepared before the intervention, whether it was properly cared for in the postoperative period. Recently, we often use combined, simultaneous techniques, when both surgical intervention and additionally minimally invasive procedures are combined – this gives a very good effect. Cosmetic procedures, firstly, limit surgical trauma. Secondly, using minimally invasive techniques or cellular technologies, we can intervene at some local level and supplement plastic surgery, for example, with lipofilling.

Trends in modern plastic surgery are developing towards less trauma, and therefore, I believe, the view on the use of various cosmetic techniques has also changed. But I mean minimally invasive correction, as for some other – the introduction of botulinum toxin preparations or, for example, fillers - I personally do not use them in my practice and leave their use to cosmetologists who refer patients to me.

What methods of anti-age correction of appearance seem to you the most promising today?

The most promising methods today are associated with the development of cellular technologies. If we talk about the development of the anti-aging industry, then the next era, the next era of cosmetology will pass under the sign, under the influence of interference in the work of the cell, in the work of mitochondria. We are gradually already penetrating into this completely unknown microcosm, which is our body. I think that in the next 20-30 years we will see completely new techniques and technologies, we will be able to use bioprinting and build up fat locally, sculpt the face using completely new approaches, and this will not require a scalpel. I think that in five years we will see completely new cosmetic techniques, and they will be associated with cellular technologies.

What effect can be achieved by a competent combination of various methods of combating the signs of aging?

You can achieve a great effect, because the success of an integrated approach to correcting the patient's appearance, as we remember, depends on the impact of different techniques at different stages – this combination will give the expected result. If, when planning a plastic surgery, we prepare the patient's skin, body, muscles to the extent necessary, if correctly, we will competently spend the recovery period – only in this case the patient gets the effect he expects.
