Platelet-rich plasma in solving dental problems

The use of platelet-rich plasma in dentistry is becoming an increasingly common technique. It significantly increases the efficiency of implantation or extraction of teeth, solving problems with inflammation & nbsp; periodontal. The technique of using PRF-clots can significantly accelerate tissue healing, reduce the risk of developing infectious complications, and reduce pain. About the features of the preparation  platelet-rich plasma and its use in dentistry read on estet-portal.com.

What is platelet-rich plasma used for in dentistry

Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF), which is used in dentistry,  – this is essentially a condensed part of the plasma, it is obtained from the patient's blood by centrifugation. PRF - fibrin clots are used according to & nbsp; the following readings:

  • soft and bone tissue augmentation,
  • periodontal therapy,
  • dental implantation,
  • Gum regeneration after tooth extraction.

Within about a week after the administration of PRF – clot from it there is a slow release of leukocytes that stimulate osteogenesis, proteins that accelerate the growth of new tissues, as well as various growth factors, the task of which is to enhance the growth of new vessels, soft and bone tissues, control cell proliferation and perform cell functions.

What does a dentist need to work with platelet-rich plasma

To work with platelet-rich plasma, the dentist must have the following equipment:

  • PRF centrifuge with 40° tube angle,
  • PRF box – tray for preparing fibrin membranes (to close bone defects) and fibrin plugs (filling holes after tooth extraction),
  • paddle and bowl for PRF – special devices for laying out prepared fibrin membranes, treating grafts with obtained injectable PRF.

As for the centrifugation mode, the main factor affecting the preparation time of the PRF-clot is centrifugal acceleration, which depends on the speed of the rotor and the distance from the tube to the central axis of the apparatus. Since the radius of the rotor varies from centrifuge to centrifuge, the centrifugation speed will also be different.

The result of centrifugation is PRF - fibrin clot – autogenous platelet-rich plasma, where activated platelets with a high content of fibrin are concentrated. These platelets regulate the growth and function of bone and periodontal tissue cells.

It is very important that platelet-rich plasma is prepared from the patient's own blood, which means that the risk of introducing incompatible biological bodies into the patient's body is excluded and the risk of infection is minimized.

This factor increases the effectiveness and safety of the method, as well as its attractiveness in the eyes of patients.

How to properly prepare platelet-rich plasma

To successfully work with platelet-rich plasma, the dentist must follow some simple rules:

centrifuge blood no later than 1 minute after sampling – this will allow you to get a sufficiently large bunch size;

before starting centrifugation, mix the collected blood in a test tube – this will accelerate the formation of thrombin and increase the clot;

after finishing centrifugation, pause – the process of blood coagulation goes through the formation of thromboplastin, the transition of prothrombin to thrombin and then the formation of fibrin from it, and therefore it takes some time to obtain the required clot.

The use of platelet-rich plasma will allow the dentist to significantly increase the efficiency of tissue healing in patients after tooth extraction or implantation.

In addition, the technique allows you to attract new patients, since the technique  involves the use of their own authentic blood rather than foreign materials, reduces pain after tooth extraction and significantly accelerates the healing of sockets, without allowing complications.

    Спасибо за статью. Уже давно используем методику PRF в своей клинике. <br /> Вопрос. Какие пробирки лучше использовать для плазмолифтинга? Обязательно оригинальные?
