The healing properties of aromatic essential oils have been known for a long time. We inhale their active elements, dripping on aroma lamps, or rub them into the skin, feeling a surge of strength and vigor. But it turns out that with the help of aromatic oils, you can also influence hair growth.

A recent study by scientists at the Queen Mary School of Medicine, University of London and published in the journal Dermatological Research found that air pollution is one of today's most significant contributing factors to hair loss.

Scientists have discovered that toxins from polluted air can be absorbed into the blood and then into the hair follicle. At the same time, toxins limit hair growth by blocking the mechanisms that produce the protein that makes up the hair.

One of the leaders of the study, Peter Bannister, points out that in many patients, hair growth restriction and hair loss is provoked most often by toxins from alcohol, food coloring, household air fragrances, cosmetic preservatives, and tobacco smoke.

Peter Bannister spent two years experimenting with different combinations of essential oils in different dilutions and different amounts. As a result, he developed a unique method of detoxifying the scalp using essential oils from plants and flowers and using acupuncture points on the scalp – a combination of hair aromatherapy and acupressure.

Most of these hair treatment approaches, such as homeopathy, acupuncture, herbal and nutritional masks, according to experts, can provoke allergies, and instead of detoxifying the body, inflammation can begin. Peter Bannister found a way to detoxify the scalp when, while applying essential oils to the acupuncture points, these healing mixtures themselves correct the mechanism of protein production and make the hair follicles function again in full force.

Once the toxins from the follicle have been eliminated, the hair can grow unhindered, and subsequent treatment procedures to strengthen the hair can be carried out more easily and, therefore, will be more effective. Scientists believe that the ability of essential oils discovered by them to strengthen hair – far from the latest healing qualities of these aromatic substances, and it is hoped that new research will help to find other valuable properties of aromatherapy for hair.
