More than 200 million women around the world have experienced urinary incontinence. Most of the fair sex is not recognized by the attending gynecologist about the presence of such a problem. Instead of consulting with a specialist on how it is possible to eliminate the disease forever and start treating it as soon as possible, women for some reason prefer to continue living in constant discomfort – complex about the unpleasant smell and wear thick pads. Such circumstances force the victims of this disease to lead a reclusive life, limiting communication with friends and relatives and even sacrificing their favorite work, which is the reason for the development of psycho-emotional disorders. In this article, we will talk in detail about

Types of urinary incontinence

Urinary incontinence is divided into three types:

    urgent;
  • stressful;
  • mixed.
At risk are:

    asthmatics;
  • paratroopers;
  • Women who have experienced trauma during childbirth or who have given birth to a large child;
  • those who had a genital tract infection at the time of delivery;
  • obese women;
  • engaged in physical labor associated with lifting weights;
  • those who suffer from constipation;
  • women aged 40 to 60.
What are the consequences of a neglected disease?

If you do not start treatment in time and let the disease take its course, this will lead to inflammatory changes in the genitals. Due to incontinence in women, the external genital organs and the lower part of the vagina are constantly wet, which causes vulvitis, colpitis, and in the future, taking into account age, the development of a whole group of dystrophic diseases of the vulva, the appearance of which contributes to the inflammatory process, is possible. Also, women suffering from incontinence face neurosis – a consequence of constant fear and shame due to the inability to control urination.

Stress incontinence

With stress incontinence, a woman does not feel the frequent urge to go to the toilet, despite the fact that she consumes a sufficient amount of fluid. However, at the slightest tension – whether it's coughing or lifting something heavy, the laundry immediately becomes wet.

What is the reason? Stress is associated with anatomical problems, the most common cause of the disease is perineal trauma caused during pathological childbirth - the tears were sewn up, but they healed poorly, and made themselves felt only after 50 years.

Second Anatomical Cause – non-closure of the walls of the urethra due to a torn crushed muscle.

How is it fixed? Pills in this case are absolutely powerless, because they can only slightly improve the situation, but are not able to eliminate the problem, therefore, at any age, it is important to carry out the operation. It can be performed either in the traditional way, in which surgical sutures are used. damaged tissues are sewn together, or with the use of meshes. Before surgery, conservative measures may be prescribed, often hormone replacement therapy. But despite the fact that HRT can improve the condition, alas, it is not able to neutralize the problem.

Kegel exercises are quite useful for urinary incontinence in women. But the exercises should be discussed in detail with the attending physician, who will be able to choose those exercises that will not provoke an increase in abdominal pressure.

The best choice – swimming, it is thanks to regular training that motivated patients achieve excellent results.

Urge incontinence

Women with urge incontinence wake up in the middle of the night due to frequent urges. In this case, the mechanism of incontinence is not related to the fact that the walls of the urethra do not close or do not hold the muscles of the perineum, it's all about the overactivity of the bladder, which contracts strongly and inappropriately. Sometimes trouble happens out of nowhere, but sometimes it is a reaction to an emotional provocation. During a walk, a woman may remember something unpleasant, because of this, the bladder tenses up, provoking a rush to urinate.

What is the reason? The reasons may be neurological, but quite often the appearance of incontinence is associated with hypoestrogenism, low levels of hormones – a problem that women often face after 50 years. During menopause, there is a sharp drop in estrogens, the bladder shrinks and enlarges, losing elasticity, and even with a slight filling, it begins to give very high pressure indicators, provoking the urge to urinate. A healthy person is able to control this very urge, but a woman suffering from urge incontinence cannot control it.

How is it fixed? For the treatment of urge incontinence, a whole group of drugs is used, the so-called antidepressants and M-anticholinergics, the best background for which is HRT.

Mixed incontinence

In case of urinary incontinence, it is important not to neglect any of the stages of the examination, only in this way it is possible to find out whether it is a mixed form or not.

The first thing a doctor should do is to send the patient to see a urologist, because there are a large number of urological problems that manifest as urinary incontinence, including urolithiasis, some types of bladder cancer and interstitial cystitis.

In no case should you decide on an operation without a study of urodynamics. Ultrasound must not be skipped – the screening program must be completed from and to at any age.

Urinary incontinence can also be the result of neurological diseases associated with the spine. This problem can occur with multiple sclerosis, syringomyelia, herniated discs, etc. Therefore, after consulting a urologist, you should go to an appointment with a neurologist.

Only after all examinations have been carried out and all tests have been obtained, if their results exclude the presence of urological and neurological pathology, the doctor can confidently establish the exact cause of urinary incontinence, after which they will be prescribed the appropriate treatment.

Urinary incontinence – this is a serious problem, but, fortunately, it can be eliminated. You should not endure constant discomfort and refuse all the joys of life due to illness.
