Sport strengthens the body, but it can tear the ligaments. One careless movement or immoderate activities can  cause them.  Ligaments are an important element of the musculoskeletal system.  They connect bones, joints and muscles. Sprain is a partial rupture of tissues, which leads to various unpleasant consequences.  Ligaments can be stretched not only during training, but also while walking in high heels.

High heels can cause ligaments to break

Often  the ligaments of the knee, shoulder, elbow and ankle joints suffer.  The ankle ligaments suffer as a result of the rolling motion. This happens during careless walking or running. Such an injury is especially relevant for football and basketball players. The ligaments of the shoulder, elbow, and knee joints are most often affected by careless barbell exercises. This happens if the body was not warmed up enough, and the athlete immediately began to lift heavy weight. The ligaments of the knee joint are damaged when squatting with a barbell. This also happens if there was not enough warm-up.

To avoid this, it is necessary to start with light weights and gradually increase it.

The second reason is sudden movements. Therefore, when exercising on simulators or lifting heavy objects, it is necessary to move smoothly. Then the links will be in perfect order.

Short essay on broken ligaments

Ligaments can be slightly damaged, as well as torn partially or completely. With a slight damage to the ligaments, a painful effect is noticeable, there are no bruises, an inconspicuous swelling is possible.

Partial rupture of the ligaments is accompanied by severe pain and swelling. Trauma may not be accompanied by rivers of blood. A complete rupture of the ligaments is characterized by pain, severe internal bruising and rapid swelling of the damaged area of the body.

It is also possible to damage the joint capsule. The joint itself becomes mobile. Subsequently, treatment  nodules may form on the ligaments. In the future, they will affect the joint by friction, which will cause pain.

How to repair where it's torn?

Treatment of an injury depends on the severity of the injury. With a minor injury, it is worth limiting the joint from physical activity for three days, and then resume classes with a small weight. With a partial rupture of the ligaments, a caliper or elastic bandage is applied. The bandage should not be rigid so as not to disturb the blood flow.  If the injury does not heal within 9 weeks, you should see your doctor again. If the ligaments are completely torn, surgery is required.

After treatment, the doctor prescribes a course of rehabilitation on an individual basis.

First aid for ligament injury

Having received a severe injury to the ligaments, it is necessary to place the limb in the most elevated position using a roller or other improvised means. This is necessary in order to ensure a normal outflow of blood and to prevent large bruises and swelling. Ice should be applied to the injured part of the body. Ice  should be wrapped in a towel or in a special bag. Otherwise, you may get ice burn.

To relieve pain, it is recommended to take painkillers orally.  Anesthetic ointments for external use are ineffective. Instead, it is better to use ointments that relieve puffiness.
