Northwestern University in the US has developed a new test that can diagnose depression through a blood test. Depression will be determined by nine RNA markers.
Also, this test will allow you to evaluate the effectiveness of therapy individually for each patient. For the study, a group of 32 healthy people and 32 patients diagnosed with clinical depression was assembled. The age of the group is 21-79 years. All participants underwent two blood tests. One before the start of the experiment, the second after 18 weeks of therapy.
The study showed changes in some markers in those patients who were helped by the treatment. In contrast, the markers did not change in patients who did not respond to therapy and in healthy participants.
The developers claim that this test is able to determine its effectiveness for each individual even before the implementation of cognitive-behavioral therapy.
