Basal cell carcinoma: recommendations for effective treatment

Oncological diseases – this is a serious problem that almost every medical specialist, including an esthetician, has to face in their practice. A person with a dangerous diagnosis can get to see a dermatologist at any time – basal cell carcinoma. That is why every specialist should be able to recognize the pathology in time, as well as have the necessary information about effective methods of its treatment.

bazalnokletochnaya-kartsinoma-rekomendatsii-po-effektivnomu-lecheniyuProfessor, MD, representative of the Faculty of Medicine of the Ludwig and Maximilian University of Munich, Director of the Clinic of Dermatology and Allergology Tomasz Ruzicka shared this knowledge with the readers of estet-portal.com. Read an exclusive interview with a leading specialist now.

Dr. Ruzicka, why are you focusing on the study of basal cell carcinoma?

We have a great interest in this particular disease, because we are doing a very large amount of research in this area. I have a very long personal experience with basal cell carcinoma. This is the most common cancer among the world's population, and in this regard, I would like to present our findings and research in this area to my Ukrainian colleagues.

How relevant is the problem of basal cell carcinoma in the practice of dermatologists?

In Munich, which has the largest department of dermatology in Europe, and probably the world's largest, almost 50% of patients have skin tumors.

Our population is getting older and older every year, and basal cell carcinoma is predominantly a disease of old people, and in the future, I'm just sure of this, more and more patients with this pathology will come to us.

Young doctors, and especially young dermatologists, should be trained to treat diseases of the elderly first, because the future, I am sure, is in gerontology.

What are the characteristics of the management of patients with basal cell carcinoma in Germany?

First of all, it is necessary to make a correct diagnosis and, in most cases, this is quite easy, but difficult in atypical cases, so it is necessary to have a lot of experience. Next, there must be a special spectrum of treatment so that pathology can be treated. And for us in Germany it is very important that we use our experience in performing dermato-surgery, and we do it quite often. In dermatology, it is simply necessary to use histology in order to correctly diagnose diseases. And we in Germany are very happy because we have all the spectrum needed for the treatment of basal cell carcinoma.

What promising developments do you use to treat basal cell carcinoma?

This is the so-called targeted treatment, meaning that tumors of large size or in large numbers can be treated quite effectively with medication using the effect on the mutating gene.

Now we are developing a new method - micrographic surgery, which implies that we can examine damaged tissue ex vivo right on the operating table.

In 2-3 years, I'm sure it will be a routine procedure, but for now it's still a research project that is under development.

Дерматолог не смог своевременно распознать герпес опоясывающий, а уж карциному базальноклеточную и подавно не распознают. Уровень знаний молодых врачей зашкаливает некомпетентностью.
