"There is an opinion that external beauty – this is what the skin looks like. However, I think the source of beauty is much deeper.  From a physiological point of view, features (especially faces) form bones.

It is the good structure of the face that determines whether the face is beautiful or not, – Dr. Oscar Ramirez, one of the leading plastic surgeons in the world, an innovator, author of over 150 scientific articles, as well as several doktor-oskar-ramirez-krasota-v-kostitextbooks on aesthetic surgery, in particular endoscopic methods, talks about his practice and novelties in the field of plastic surgery.

About facial plastic surgery

The bone structure provides support to the muscles and skin, creating angles and contours of the relief, making the face more attractive and youthful. Recent studies show that facial bones become smaller and thinner with age. This loss of bone structure can be restored with implants, providing a basis for working with the soft tissues of the face (fat, muscle and skin). Dr. Ramirez's developments in the field of implants allow facial reconstruction for patients who have lost bone mass, giving, for example, masculinity to the chin. By the way, this applies not only to men – women today also prefer a more defined facial structure. Implants can be placed on any part of the face – cheeks, lower and upper orbits or temples.

"If you look closely at any glamor magazine, you will see that the most beautiful models have strong skeletal support in their faces. They have pronounced cheekbones, angles in the lower jaw," says Dr. Oscar Ramirez.

Often a facelift consists of stretching and pulling the skin, making it stiff and shiny around the ears, on the cheeks, and looser in the center of the face. Whereas Dr. Ramirez, using endoscopic surgery techniques that provide a minimally invasive operation, focuses on the middle of the face, jaw line, chin and neck, in many cases without removing the skin, but creating a more attractive, oval shape.

According to Dr. Ramirez, patients often ask to correct the mistakes of other surgeons. Many specialists refuse to take on such work – performing secondary operations – it's always a challenge. The scarring and distortion make it more difficult so it can never be completely perfect.

About rhinoplasty

Dr. Ramirez considers rhinoplasty to be one of the most difficult procedures in plastic surgery, as it consists of correcting bones, cartilage, varying skin thicknesses, and the nasal airway itself, all of which must remain fully functional.

Complications can be both aesthetic and functional. In order to avoid such situations, additional materials and cartilage are needed – each part of the nose needs support to prevent possible destruction when the cartilage is removed (for example, when the nose needs to be made smaller).

"When you get a rhinoplasty, you have to provide enough support, even add extra support, to make your nose look better both immediately after surgery and ten years later" - Dr. Oscar Ramirez.
