Елена Венгер: роль стоматолога-ортодонта в эстетической медицине

On April 16, the First International Conference "Three-profile planning for the correction of the face and neck of a difficult patient" was held in Kyiv. The conference was attended by leading experts in the field of cosmetology, plastic surgery and dentistry, who spoke about the need for doctors of different profiles to work together to achieve the best result in working with difficult patients.

Elena Wenger - dentist, chief supervising physician of the Steadley clinic, member of the Association of Periodontists of Ukraine, member of the Association of Orthodontists of Ukraine made a presentation "Planning the patient's dental recovery" and answered a few questions specifically for estet-portal.com readers about the role of an orthodontist in aesthetic medicine.

Elena, how does the bite of an age patient affect the formation of the nasolabial fold

The fact is that with age, changes in bite occur, even if there were no such changes before, that is, the patient did not go to orthodontists. With age, tissue abrasion occurs, this is a natural process, it is physiological. Sometimes there are pathological changes when the abrasion is excessive and the height of the bite is reduced.

Accordingly, the nasolabial folds deepen, there is a problem with the drooping of the corners of the mouth, a problem with the fullness of the lips and the support of soft tissues by the teeth, therefore the patient's appearance and the aesthetic perception of the person change.

When is it correct to perform aesthetic injection procedures if the patient wears a bracket system

If the patient is wearing a bracket system or some other system or device for orthodontic treatment, it is best to use injection techniques at the end of treatment. After removing the system, the result of structural changes and the end of the displacement will already be visible, and, accordingly, it is possible to correctly carry out the correction and get a greater aesthetic, long-term and predictable result of what we want to correct.

How relevant is the issue of joint work of orthodontists, cosmetologists and plastic surgeons

I think this is a very relevant question, because we are somehow divided. Dentists do not fully know the capabilities of cosmetologists and plastic surgeons, and, accordingly, cosmetologists and plastic surgeons do not always know the capabilities of dentists. Of course, for a better aesthetic, longer-term and more predictable result, it is better to work on a difficult patient together.

Our cooperation with Alexander Vasilyevich Borodko is aimed at creating an algorithm of actions. A patient can come for a consultation with both a plastic surgeon and me as a dentist, and I want to understand how I can help not only from my specialty, but also how I can involve related specialists.
