At a meeting with doctors in Kharkiv, the Minister of Health of Ukraine announced that he intends to initiate a reduction in the number of medical specialties and noted that the abundance of specialties in the country is a Soviet legacy that needs to be disposed of.

On February 10, Alexander Kvitashvili met with doctors from the region in Kharkiv, where he made a statement that the number of medical specialties in Ukraine should be reduced.

The minister believes that at the moment there are many more professions in the country than required and considers this phenomenon a Soviet legacy. Kvitashvili noted that the existence of an abundance of specialties is connected with the desire "to knock out a bet for someone." The politician stressed that in the world, for example, there is no such profession as a surgeon of the right forearm, there is only general surgery.

Oleksandr Kvitashvili believes that the experience of Europeans should become a benchmark for Ukraine. The minister plans to gradually introduce methods and protocols of treatment tested in the West.

The politician said that the privatization of hospitals is not yet part of the ministry's plans due to Ukraine's unpreparedness for such drastic changes.

Recall that in December the presentation of the reform strategy of the medical industry took place.
