The lip correction procedure, using injections of fillers based on hyaluronic acid, has long been at the top of the list of the most requested aesthetic procedures. Women and men, very young patients and older people – this procedure is of interest to absolutely everyone. However, patient demands and doctors' abilities depend on many factors and may change over time.

What do patients want today, and what tools for lip correction are in the arsenal of specialists – in an exclusive interview for estet-portal.com, Svetlana Larkina, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Chief Physician of the Center for Intensive Cosmetology and Anti-Age Therapy, a permanent speaker of international congresses, author of patents in aesthetic medicine, said.

What, in your opinion, is the main thing in lip correction?

C.L.: Lip Correction – this is one of the most popular procedures today and we get the most complications just during its implementation. It must be understood that the lips – it is a muscular organ for which the support of underlying structures is important. If he does not have such support, now I am talking about the teeth and bones of the facial skeleton, then there will be no good correction result, this is the first. Second – it is that the lips on the face cannot be considered separately.

They can be small or large for a particular person, the person's height and all proportions play a role.  You can talk a lot about proportions, but in aesthetic medicine there are standards of harmony and beauty that must be adhered to. It is also very important what the patient's smile will look like in emotions, because it is impossible to consider the face only in a calm state of statics, it is important to consider the face and lips in dynamics, in emotions.

The most important thing for me – make a face that will be positive even in a calm state.

In fact, the main thing for me is to make a face that will be positive even in a calm state, so that the patient does not have lowered corners of the mouth, and this is already work with botulinum toxins, so that the patient smiles more. Where we see positive emotions, even if a person is not perfect and deviates from some beauty standards, he is still perceived positively, he attracts attention, we want to communicate with him. We look at such people and say: “How lucky they are!”.

What techniques should be used to correct the perioral region?

C.L.: Working in the perioral zone, we must understand that the problem may lie deeper, but we see the changes on the skin. If we are talking about age-related changes, then these are small purse-string wrinkles around the lips. And here you can not do without procedures that will exfoliate the upper layers of the skin. These can be both superficial peels and hardware techniques, such as microdermabrasion and resurfacing, as well as cosmeceuticals that will stimulate skin renewal processes.

Then it is already possible to connect regenerating procedures that have proven effectiveness to date, and only after that we make a decision about what and how we need to fill with fillers.

Another important point -  I always say that lips that are well vascularized look more attractive, so I recommend more kissing.

What fillers do you prefer to work with for lip correction?

C.L.: For lip correction, hyaluronic acid fillers are mainly used. There is also lipofilling and nanofat, but this technique has not yet entered our lives so widely that we can use it everywhere. To date, most of the fillers for the lip area – These are hyaluronic acid fillers. There are many of them, they are different, more or less hydrophilic, but fillers are selected individually for each patient. Where support for the chin area is needed and there is a lack of bone tissue, calcium hydroxyapatite-based fillers and hyaluronic acid fillers can also be used. I am actively working with Luminera products, which is part of the Panaxia LTD (Israel) group of companies. In Ukraine, these products are represented by the company

I prefer Hydryalix hyaluronic acid fillers because they are less hydrophilic. I don't like overly large lips, I like more natural ones. These fillers are quite dense and less plastic when injected, but due to the fact that they have a high cohesiveness, when working with them, there is never an excessive volume of the lips. Hydryalix fillers, presented by OKK-EXPERT PHARMA COMPANY, are well distributed in tissues and, based on the results of the procedures, I can say that I get a very natural and beautiful effect with them.   What effect of lip correction do patients want today?

C

.L.: As a rule, young girls come for volume and very often they want big lips. It takes great difficulty to convince them that sometimes a much smaller volume is enough for their face and to explain that large lips, where the correction is obvious – it is no longer fashionable. Today we are for naturalness, for everything that is ours and dear, so that the patient can say that she is so beautiful in life, with slightly swollen lips. In order to understand what result patients want, I sometimes advise actively kissing, and then approach the mirror and evaluate the natural effect of the lips after the kiss. This is the result we can do and it will be saved. If the patient says that this is not enough for her – then we evaluate the proportions of the face, sometimes we even take a ruler and begin to measure whether the lips of a larger volume will suit this girl. At the same time, it is impossible to look only frontally, we must definitely examine the patient from different angles, ask to smile, say something, evaluate what sounds will be, how symmetrical the smile is, and so on. These are all important diagnostic criteria. Photo and video recording is also important & nbsp; before and after the procedure.

What should a beautician do if a patient comes with a request for severe lip hypercorrection?

C

.L.: Every cosmetologist who works for a long time is always a bit of a psychotherapist. In no way am I taking away work from psychotherapists, but I want to say that usually people come to us not to make lips, but to change something in life.

Patients assume that external changes will lead to internal changes, add self-confidence, attract something else. And here you need to understand with what request and why this patient came to us right now. Often the reason may be a break with a loved one, or, conversely, the search for a new person.

But this does not mean that the "new" lips will allow the patient to find something different in life. Therefore, if the patient's request is adequate, there are age-related changes, there is some disproportion – this is for me. And if the patient wants too much – in the end, we can refuse him. And sometimes I really refuse a service and explain to the patient that it will be ugly. My reputation is important to me.
