Regenerative medicine is currently one of the most interesting and studied branches of modern medicine. The issues of restoring body structures are of interest not only to specialists, but also to their patients. Regenerative technologies are widely used in modern clinics, including in aesthetic medicine, but not all specialists have reliable information about their use. This is exactly what the Honored Doctor of Ukraine, Doctor of Medical Sciences, General Director of the Virtus Clinic of Plastic Aesthetic Surgery Tsepkolenko Volodymyr Oleksandrovych said in an exclusive interview for estet-portal.com.

Vladimir Alexandrovich, the development of aesthetic medicine today is going in the anti-age direction. What role do regenerative technologies play in this?

The fact is that today there is an event called anti-age, and behind it are injections of fillers and botulinum toxin. I want to tell you right away that fillers and botulinum toxin have nothing to do with anti-aging, because anti-aging – It's life extension, not shortening. After all, leather is not a leather jacket or a raincoat, it is a living organ, and it is impossible to replace it with artificial materials. Therefore, the concept of anti-aging direction is much broader than those injections that are so often mentioned, that this is anti-aging.

We should not fight wrinkles, but restore the youthfulness of the skin and the health of our patients.

This is exactly what regenerative technologies do, because their main task – restore what is lost. And lost volume, blood flow, metabolic processes, skin immunity. That's what happens with age. It is these main points that are the subject of regenerative medicine. It is regenerative technologies that contribute to the real restoration of both the appearance of the skin and its functions.

Which regenerative techniques do you think are the future?

If a person is young, about 20 years old, then suggesting the right lifestyle and proper skin care are also regenerative principles. And if a young woman looks much older, there are probably reasons behind this, and it's not about wrinkles. Perhaps she has suffered some kind of illness, or is suffering from a chronic illness that requires treatment and, along with this treatment, restoration of the skin. That is, regenerative medicine and aesthetic medicine are not the lot of beauty salons, this is the lot of clinics.

How widely and effectively is platelet-rich plasma currently used?

You know, it all depends on whose hands it is and what it is used for. When plasma therapy is done in every hairdresser today, the issue is not in plasma. We are talking about growth factors, and they are contained in platelets. And plasma can contain bacteria, viruses, decay products of human life – urea, creatinine. So what does – plasma, or, all the same, growth factors? This is not plasma therapy, but the use of autologous growth factors.

We still need to use those technologies that allow us to obtain the maximum number of platelets.

How do you feel about the use of stem cells in aesthetic medicine?

If the patient has an indication, then we use it. Recommended if a person has stress, exhaustion and complaints. Where does the doctor start: memory loss, fatigue, decreased libido, sleep disturbance at night, pressure drops. A person begins to get sick, and does not know why, and this indicates the depletion of the stem reserve. And if there are no other diseases that can cause precisely these complaints, then the patient needs to replenish the stem reserve to renew his body, and then stem cells are prescribed. That is, there are indications for everything. Do not rush to enter everything that is in a row. This is the principle of proper medicine. And stem cells – it is also a tool in the hands of a doctor.
