Before performing injection lip correction, it is important to exclude:

  • infections in the treated area;
  • blood clotting disorder;
  • uncontrolled diabetes;
  • sensitivity to hyaluronic acid;
  • taking blood thinners (ibuprofen or aspirin) 2 weeks before the procedure.

Preparation for lip correction with hyaluronic acid

In the preparation phase, it is important to clearly define the needs of the patient. For some patients, a slight correction is sufficient, while for others, a more defined contour or volume is required. The optimal approach to lip augmentation to obtain the desired result can only be selected in accordance with the patient's requests.

Before the procedure, the patient must sign an informed consent form, which sets out all the possible side effects and complications of injection lip correction.

Lip augmentation is performed under local anesthesia or after application of an anesthetic cream, depending on the patient's pain threshold. The author prefers to perform blockade of the infraorbital and mental nerves, since often anesthetic creams do not provide the necessary comfort for the patient, which reduces the accuracy of the correction.

Technique and results of HA lip augmentation

For optimal lip augmentation results, it is important to correctly contour and respect the relationship between the upper and lower lip. The gold standard for most ethnic women is 1 (upper lip): 1.6 (lower lip).

During the correction, it is important to maintain the natural proportions of the lips.

In the author's practice, deflation of the red border of the lips – one of the most frequent complaints of patients, which is accompanied by the drooping of the corners of the mouth. During the procedure, it is the upper lip that requires more attention from the specialist.

For lip augmentation, HA uses the technique of successive punctures and linear-retrograde filler injection. Techniques can be used alone or combined depending on the needs of the patient.

The target plane for volumization is determined during the evaluation of the patient's lips. The best approach to correction – individual, based on the wishes of the patient.

For particularly thin lips, augmentation in deeper planes is recommended, followed by superficial correction to give clarity to the contours. On the contrary, with sufficient volumes the filler is injected superficially, emphasizing the border of the red border of the lips.

The author prefers 27G cannula correction as it minimizes trauma and reduces the risk of vessel puncture. The cannula provides access to all areas of the lips through a minimum number of injections – in most cases one entry point on each side of the lip.

According to the author, it is not necessary to start the introduction of the filler from the border of the lips. Exceptions are cases where it is necessary:

  • lengthen lips;
  • provide structural support for augmented tissues.

At the final stage of correction, you should make sure that the filler is injected and distributed evenly in the tissues, and that the natural proportions of the lips are preserved.

Immediately after the lip augmentation procedure, even if all the rules for the correction are followed, swelling or bruising may occur. Cold compresses can be used to minimize discomfort. Within 24 hours after the correction, you should refrain from lip exfoliation, other aesthetic procedures and exposure to extreme temperatures. The duration of the results depends on the individual characteristics of the patient's body and the selected drug.
