Aesthetic medicine – this is a very progressive and rapidly developing area in which new methods, products and procedures appear almost daily. With such an intensive pace of development, the annual emergence of new trends, which are followed by both the specialists themselves and their patients, is natural. What procedures are especially popular and in demand in aesthetic medicine this year – in an exclusive interview for estet-portal.com, Olga Chalenko, a dermatovenereologist of the highest category, a medical adviser to Allergan, a trainer in injection techniques, said.

What trends in modern aesthetic medicine can you highlight?

Social networks and the media are actively introducing beauty standards into our consciousness.  Fortunately, the desire to follow them is gradually decreasing. Bright tattooing, excessive cheekbones, large lips rather interfere with being beautiful and cause bewilderment among others. « Good work is immediately noticeable, and very good – not noticeable at all" - my favorite saying perfectly reflects this trend.

Trend – it is healthy skin, natural emotions, good mood, healthy lifestyle, individuality and the most careful approach to one's own, natural beauty.

Which aesthetic procedures are the most popular today?

Cosmetology has long moved from filling wrinkles and folds to 3D correction to restore volume. And if earlier they worked mainly with the middle third of the face, now they pay attention to the volume of the forehead, temples, chin, parotid zone in order to maintain a natural balance of proportions. We begin to better understand the mechanisms and patterns of age-related changes in appearance.  Today, methods of restoring the volume of deep facial tissues are especially popular, including with the help of one's own fat. As for non-invasive procedures – hardware methods for improving the characteristics of the skin are being modified and become more accessible. In addition, cellular technologies are intensively developing. Here are the main trends that I can note.

What preparations do you choose for volumetric face correction?

I love Allergan products.  I want to give the patient a long  and natural result – and must work with quality products. These drugs are made using Vycross&trade technology, which has no analogues.  With it, I can guarantee quality, comfort and safety.  Sometimes patients come to me and ask about the price of the drug. I tell them that I can take Allergan's drug, and then the procedure will be painless, there will be no bruising after it, and the effect will be long-lasting, or I can take a cheaper drug, but then after the procedure there may be more swelling and a short effect. I offer my patients a choice.  After thinking, they choose quality, because they understand that it is impossible to save on it.

Is Botulinum Therapy still a popular procedure in aesthetic medicine?

Yes, botulinum toxin therapy is naturally popular, but the trends here are changing a bit. When botulinum therapy was just beginning to be used in aesthetic medicine – the main quality criterion was the complete absence of wrinkles. Patients then had frozen faces with fixed eyebrows, and the wording "to stand for a long time" was very popular. Now the trend is the full face technique. The doctor maintains the harmony of facial expressions and removes the hypertonicity of certain muscles in order to preserve the quality of the skin, the natural position of the eyebrows, and a clear oval of the face as long as possible. There is such a theory that with age, bundles-markers of aging appear in the muscles, and a change in the tone of facial muscles affects the position of facial fat. And competently modeling the tone of mimic muscles, we can slow down the formation of hernias under the eyes and paint bags. It is important for the patient to explain in time that botulinum therapy is now becoming prophylactic. This is an art that requires knowledge of the anatomy of the face and an individual approach to each patient.

What drugs do you use for botulinum therapy?

My favorite treatment for botulinum toxin therapy is Botox® from Allergan. I compare this preparation to the fine brush that artists use to paint.

Botox ® is best suited for complex corrections, i.e. where we work with small muscles, and where precision work, individual protocols and correction of asymmetries are especially important to us.

And it is Botox® that is very precise and my favorite tool to achieve the best results of botulinum therapy.
