Aging – it is an inevitable process that, at a certain age, starts in the body of every person. The processes of facial aging are inevitably accompanied by a loss of volume, as a result of which the face acquires a tired, senile appearance. At the moment, both plastic surgery and injection cosmetology help to cope with this problem. At the Visiting Professor Program II conference, which was held in early September in Kyiv, plastic surgeon, Master of Medicine, full member of the All-Ukrainian Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons Vladimir Petrovich Pirus made a presentation on volumizing contouring. Especially for the readers of estet-portal.com, Dr. Pirus spoke about the features of surgical and injection volumization.

Vladimir Petrovich, in what cases can a patient be shown volumizing techniques?

Given the peculiarities of the stages of aging, I can say that the loss of – this is one of the most important moments that happen to the face.

Aging is always based on volume loss.

Another question – how the doctor is going to make up for this loss of volume, because surgeons are proficient in lipofilling, and cosmetologists are more proficient in injection techniques. But always, one way or another, the issue of facial volumization remains relevant.

What facial volumization techniques do you use in your practice?

I, owning both injection techniques and surgical methods, and this is directly lipofilling, implants, etc., based on various situations, I prefer one method or another. When it comes to young patients who do not have pronounced age-related changes, I prefer injection volumization techniques. For older patients, who have a more pronounced tissue disproportion and omission, I prefer surgical techniques, including lipofilling.

In your opinion, what are the benefits of using hyaluronic acid fillers for volumization?

Firstly, it is fast, quite affordable, it does not require special conditions - the procedure can be performed in a manipulation or cosmetology room, if the conditions of septic and antiseptic are observed. In addition, injection techniques are less traumatic and make it possible to recover very quickly – sometimes the rehabilitation period is practically absent. Social adaptation and the ability to quickly return to their duties, work and normal life attracts many of our patients. Surgery, on the other hand, is always associated with rehabilitation, extensive tissue injury, and some symptoms, which is why some patients are afraid of surgery and do not dare to undergo surgery. For them, there is always an alternative solution in the form of contouring.

In your opinion, can minimally invasive techniques replace traditional plastic surgeries over time?

I think not.

Plastic surgery will be relevant for at least the next 15-20 years.

Of course, the number of operations will decrease, due to the fact that this area is developing rapidly, the quality of drugs and injection techniques are improving, the level of doctors is growing, and our knowledge of the biomechanisms of aging and the influence of factors such as volume is also improving every year . I think the trend will be such that the number of operations will decrease, and the number of minimally invasive techniques will increase, but plastic surgery will be relevant for those cases where there are pronounced age-related changes.
