Over the past decades, the number of cases of liver cancer has increased several times. This disease is more common in men than in women. In San Diego (USA), the results of a long-term study were presented, during which a drink was named that can protect the liver from cancer.

Authorship for this study belongs to the American Society for Cancer Research. Over the course of 18 years, they surveyed more than 180,000 people, tracking their eating habits, including their attitude to coffee. They also noted that out of all 180,000 respondents during this time, 500 people developed liver cancer. Scientists explain this indicator by the frequency of coffee consumption. So, 1-3 cups of coffee a day will reduce the risk of developing cancer by 30%, and more than 4 cups – by 42%.

Scientists also point out that the trend towards reduced risk of the disease persists even in the presence of other risk factors for the development of cancer. But drinking less than 5 cups of coffee a week does not bring results.

This is not the first study to show the effect of coffee on the development of cancer. Scientists have already noted the positive impact of this drink in reducing the risk of developing cancer of the esophagus, colon, pancreas, bladder, uterus, prostate, and even neck and head.

Unfortunately, doctors have not yet been able to determine which component, which is part of coffee, is responsible for the protective effect. Therefore, scientists led by study author Wendy Setiawan will continue their work to determine the mechanism of coffee's effect on the body's defense against cancer.
