Sleep disturbance. Effective herbal treatment for insomnia

We often hear complaints from our relatives, acquaintances or passers-by that they cannot fall asleep, sleep lightly, do not get enough sleep and do not rest because of this. These disorders are grouped together under the diagnosis of insomnia. Like any other diagnosis, insomnia requires attention and treatment. The best treatment for any disease – removing its cause. And there are not so many causes of insomnia that a person can eliminate. What are the main causes of insomnia? What treatment for insomnia will help you get a healthy sleep?

Sleep disorder. The main symptoms of insomnia 

Insomnia (insomnia) – is a sleep disorder characterized by inadequate sleep duration or quality, or a combination of the two, over a long period of time.

The main symptoms of sleep disturbance are poor falling asleep and/or poor sleep quality (frequent waking episodes, feeling tired and tired upon waking). Sleep disorders are considered insomnia if they appear within 1 month at least 3 times a week. Often, patients are concerned about insomnia, which is accompanied by a feeling of lack of sleep and fatigue. This is accompanied by anxiety, nervousness, drowsiness during the day. Patients complain about the constant presence of a bad mood (dysthymia), a decrease in concentration and memory.

Common causes of insomnia and how to deal with them

The causes of insomnia in most cases are emotional experiences, stressful situations and constant nervous experiences. Situations that bother a person during the day often keep you awake at night.

Other causes of insomnia are improper sleep preparation and organization. These reasons include:

  • a soft bed (mattress), when lying on which the spine at night is in an incorrect and unnatural position for it;
  • heavy air in an unventilated room;
  • watching news or movies with negative scenes;
  • late heavy dinner;
  • medication at night.

To eliminate these causes of insomnia, you should purchase a mattress of medium and high hardness (depending on weight), ventilate the bedroom every day, take walks in the fresh air before going to bed, and eat light meals at least 3 hours before bedtime. Avoid taking any medication before bed. Also try to limit views of anything with possible negative content.

Treatment for insomnia. Phytotherapy to eliminate sleep disorders

Among the many treatments for insomnia, herbal medicine ranks first in terms of effectiveness. Since ancient times, the power and healing effects of herbs in the treatment of ailments have been known. No synthetic drugs will have such an effect as herbal medicine. In addition, phytotherapy has a huge advantage over drugs – its chemicals that have an effect on the body have a structure that is close and understandable to the enzyme systems of the body. Therefore, phytochemicals do not accumulate in the liver and kidneys, do not have side effects (if used correctly according to indications).

The following herbs are used to treat insomnia:

  • Creeping thyme. It contains essential oil, flavonoids, triterpene, thymunic, ursolic, oleonolic, caffeic, chlorogenic and quinic acids, bitterness, resins, tannins and saponins.
  • Valerian officinalis. The rhizomes and roots of valerian contain up to 3.5% essential oil. Among them, the main component is bornylizovalerianate, valeric and isovaleric acids, borneol, pinene, terpineol and sesquiterpenes, as well as valepotriates, triterpene glycosides, tannins and organic acids.
  • Rosemary ordinary. Rosemary leaves contain alkaloids (rosmaricin), ursolic and rosmarinic acids, tannins. Leaves, flowers and shoots contain essential (rosemary) oil.
  • Melissa officinalis. Melissa herb contains an essential oil with a lemon scent. Main components – citral, citronellal, myrcene and geraniol. Also in the composition of ascorbic acid, tannins, caffeic, oleic and ursolic acids.
  • Hop ordinary. Hop cones contain valeric and hops acid, humulin, choline, wax, essential oil, vitamins, lupulin, gum, trimethylamine. It also contains resins and flavonoids that have a calming effect.
  • Hawthorn blood red. Hawthorn fruits contain sugars, fatty acids, pectins, tannins, tartaric and citric acids, phytosterols, glycosides, phenylcarboxylic and triterpene acids, acetylcholine, vitamins C, E, P, beta-carotene, choline, micro- and macroelements.
  • Origanum, peppermint and licorice are also effective in treating insomnia.

For the treatment of insomnia, preparations are made from several herbs, the main among which should be any of the herbs listed above. For example, a collection of thyme grass, fern, motherwort, hop seedlings, hawthorn flowers, oregano and lavender grass. Take 2 tablespoons of herbs in equal proportions, pour a glass of boiling water, let the broth brew for half an hour. After that, strain and drink half a glass half an hour before bedtime.

Using herbs to treat sleep disorders, a person not only does not load the body with unnecessary unnatural chemistry, but also saturates it with  useful substances contained in herbs. In addition, the effectiveness of herbal medicine in the treatment of insomnia leaves no doubt.

    Здравствуйте! Очень хорошие народные рецепты. Теперь буду знать, чем себе помочь в случаи чего. Вот так и мой лечащий врач до поры до времени не обращал внимания на моё плохое самочувствие и жалобы на нарушения сна. Говорил, что со временем пройдёт. А они не проходили.
