According to research results, on average, a modern person sits 7.7 hours a day, while many manage not to break away from a chair / sofa / armchair for as much as 15 hours! Experts are concerned about this trend, because the consequences of physical inactivity are simply terrifying: high blood pressure, obesity, diabetes, depression and a whole host of other diseases. Sedentary lifestyle – the right way to premature aging

The study involved 1 500 women aged 64 to 95 who were asked about their level of physical activity and the amount of time spent daily in a sitting position. After that, the results of the survey were compared with the length of telomere volunteers.

Women who spent more than 10 hours a day sitting and less than 30 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity were found to have significantly shorter telomeres than their more active peers.

After each cell division, telomeres shorten, so their length is used to determine biological aging. Over time, telomeres become so short that the cell can no longer divide and dies.   • heart disease;
  • diabetes.

The lead author of the study, Aladdin Shadyan, said: "The results of our study suggest that cells age faster when people are sedentary."

It is also interesting that in women who exercised at least 30 minutes a day, despite prolonged sitting, telomere length did not decrease. Sedentary lifestyle and smoking: which is worse for health?
