The rapid development of aesthetic medicine is simply amazing: specialists today have such opportunities open that even 10 years ago they could not even dream of. The presence of effective procedures and techniques in the arsenal of aesthetic medicine doctors forms a proposal, on the basis of which the most popular and sought-after procedures are determined.

What are the trends in aesthetic medicine today – Alexander Karpinsky, an otolaryngologist, plastic surgeon and specialist in injection cosmetology, spoke exclusively for estet-portal.com.

What key trends in aesthetic medicine can you highlight?

А.К.: Key trends in aesthetic medicine in 2018 – this is, firstly, the correct observance of proportions when harmonizing the face.

We must understand that naturalness is in fashion now, and our patients need to make corrections so that after visiting our office no one focuses on who made them such lips or cheekbones, but pays attention only to fresh, beautiful and harmonious appearance.

Esthetic medicine among men is becoming more and more popular every day.

I think that in the near future the topic of gender characteristics will be relevant: masculinization in men and feminization in women, this will be given a lot of attention.

Today, intimate contouring is also very relevant: both for women and for men. This is a new trend, and I think that this branch of aesthetics is the future.

If we talk about aesthetic surgery, of course, the use of lipofilling, nanolipografting and lipomyosculpture – in my opinion, these are the main trends for the coming year.

Aesthetic medicine trends 2018: what leading experts predict

What are the most common requests patients have today?

A.K.: That's a very interesting question, as older patients often come to me today and say they want a cream that can smooth out their wrinkles.

In this case, I usually say that if such a cream existed – patients would not leave fingerprints when using it. Today, patients come with different questions, sometimes even rather incorrect ones.

But, in general, I can say that now patients are no longer chasing to look 20 at 50. They want to look 50 at 50, but be well-groomed and natural, and this makes me very happy.

What age group of patients do you like to work with most?

A.K.: To be honest, I don't have a favorite age group of patients. I equally enjoy working with young patients, that is, with the 25+ category, and also with patients aged 45+.

I enjoy working with patients of different age groups, because each patient is interesting to me in its own way, and each of them has its own characteristics.

That is why the correction of each patient, regardless of what age category he belongs to – this is always a very interesting topic for me.

What are the specifics of working with male patients?

А.К.: To my surprise, several male patients have already told me that they trust themselves more to male specialists. I don’t know what it is connected with,  maybe the psychological factor plays a certain role.

Men are really special patients. If we compare them with women, we can say that they, like little children, do not endure pain, and therefore the approach to them is very different.

Plus, men do not want to have a long rehabilitation period after the procedure. For men, the best time to visit the – it's 10:00 pm on a Friday when I say I'm not working anymore.

But I am glad that every day I have more and more male patients, and they understand that coming to a specialist in aesthetic medicine and making a correction – this is normal, because we are in that civilized world where this has long been a generally accepted norm.

What trends in aesthetic medicine should we expect in the near future?

А.К.: It seems to me that the main trend in aesthetic medicine in the near future will be the use of the body's own resources for its own restoration.

Now there are already many such directions, such as, for example, the use of stem cells in aesthetic medicine.

It seems to me that in the future, the patient's own biological material will be taken from the patient, on the basis of which the drug will be prepared and correction will be carried out.

It is precisely such procedures, in my opinion, that will be the future of aesthetic medicine.
