чАлексей Фильчуков о синергии в работе дерматокосметологов и пластических хирургов

Aleksey Filchukov, Head of Medical Public Relations Managers at Allergan attended the ISAPS Congress, which was held in Kyiv on May 19th and 20th. In an interview for estet-portal.com, a representative of one of the leading companies in the field of aesthetic medicine spoke about the important aspects of the work and collegiality of dermatocosmetologists and plastic surgeons, shared information about new developments by Allergan and explained how young specialists in the field of aesthetic medicine can distinguish a quality product from a low-quality one. .

What can be common ground in the work of dermatologists and plastic surgeons

А.Ф. Allergan operates in the segment of plastic surgery – with implants, expanders for breast surgery, as well as dermatocosmetology – with botox, fillers. The point of contact in the work of plastic surgeons and dermatologists is the patient.

In fact, it is so important for the patient which of these specialists will work with him and what procedures he will perform to achieve the desired result. The task of plastic surgeons and cosmetologists-injectionists is one – rejuvenation and a beautiful image of the patient. Of course, the methods used by dermatologists and plastic surgeons are different.

Therefore, it is very important to draw the line between the need for minimally invasive procedures and plastic surgery, taking into account the patient's age, skin condition and other factors.

The trend in plastic surgery these days is towards minimally invasive procedures. Operations with a long rehabilitation period are being carried out less and less. And after the plastic surgeon, the patient again turns to his specialist dermatocosmetologist, who works with him further.

Therefore, it is important to accurately determine this moment when a patient needs to move from a dermatocosmetologist to a plastic surgeon in order to effectively solve appearance problems, and when – return back to the dermatocosmetologist to consolidate the results.

Can cosmetologists and plastic surgeons help each other solve the problem of complications after procedures?

A.F. Complications and side effects are faced by both plastic surgeons and dermatocosmetologists. Collegiality and solving the problem of complications – actual problems of fundamental medicine. Every specialist working in the field of aesthetic medicine faces complications.

Therefore, such problems should be treated calmly and ways to minimize them – resort to minimally risky manipulations, use the safest methods, choose only high-quality products for procedures. In this situation, the cooperation of dermatocosmetologists and plastic surgeons consists in cooperation: the dermatocosmetologist must timely transfer the patient into the hands of a plastic surgeon, who, through certain procedures (for example, blepharoplasty or a minimally invasive facelift), will be able to achieve results that a dermatocosmetologist with an existing arsenal cannot provide funds.

Have Allergan now available drugs and how do they differ from previously available products

A.F. The field of aesthetic medicine is developing very dynamically, however, breakthroughs happen, as a rule, once every 7-10 years. For Allergan, these breakthroughs were:

• BOTOX  registration for use in aesthetic medicine (1991);
• registration and introduction into practice of fillers based on hyaluronic acid;
• proof of the safety of silicone breast implants (provided they are of good quality and clinically proven to be safe).

Products that are used in aesthetic medicine undergo a very long period of approbation. Therefore, testing new products for safety and efficacy can take 3-5 years. The new products that will be included in the Allergan portfolio in addition to Botox, Vycross latest generation fillers and Natrelle implants are:

• lipolytic drug BELKYRA, approved by the FDA to eliminate the second chin (this area is very delicate, it is characterized by certain features of the work);
• earFold ear implant (Although plastic surgery solves this problem, the earFold implant eliminates the need for a special bandage for two weeks after surgery and allows you to return to normal life immediately after the procedure without any discomfort).

How can a young doctor distinguish a high-quality drug from a low-quality one

A.F. For young professionals in the field of aesthetic medicine, everything is both difficult and easy at the same time. It is difficult because there are a huge number of drugs on the market. And it's easy, because young professionals have the opportunity to seek advice from experienced colleagues and use the Internet to check the availability of registration certificates for products on FDA websites and CE marking.

CE marking and FDA approval indicates that the drugs on the market are safe, verified by regulatory authorities, have passed all the necessary clinical studies, as well as directly by patients. Therefore, I advise young professionals starting to work in the field of aesthetic medicine: study, read, watch open resources and come to study at companies that will require a diploma of higher medical education.
