Эстетические проблемы как результат психологических проблем: тактика врача

Modern cosmetology and plastic surgery are aimed at improving the appearance of the patient, taking into account modern beauty criteria and the personal needs of the client. Sometimes professionals in the field of aesthetic medicine are faced with a client's request to help correct external imperfections, which are extremely subjective, unreasonable and practically non-existent.

In the article estet-portal.com you can read in detail the recommendations on the tactics of behavior when meeting with such a client, based on information provided by practicing psychologist Orest Shupenyuk, who graduated from Kyiv National University. T. Shevchenko, Faculty of Psychology.

He received a more in-depth education at the International Academy of Psychotherapy in Wiesbaden, Germany. In 2017, he completed the course of the Higher School of Psychology "Psychotherapy of sexual dysfunctions and marital disharmony". Methods of work: positive psychotherapy, gestalt approach, cognitive behavioral therapy.

The origins of aesthetic problems

O.Sh.: My work is related to the field of aesthetic medicine. Often my clients solve their internal, deep problems through the improvement of appearance. This phenomenon is paradoxical, because it is not invested in the classical theory and practice of psychology.

The most common manifestations of psychological imbalance are problems of self-esteem, self-worth, self-love, self-acceptance, adaptation, fears. This is the foundation on which a person's life is built.

In modern society, many factors adversely affect the psychological sphere of a person. A value judgment system and active, toxic demands on a person are the hallmarks of the 21st century. Often a person cannot correspond to the generally accepted system of values.

Under such conditions, only a well-formed personality, whose forces are aimed at cultivating oneself and believing in one's own strength, can withstand the unfavorable factors of the social environment.

Correction of external characteristics to cure psychological problems

O.Sh.: Yes, this approach has a right to exist. I had a client whose main problem was dissatisfaction with the shape of her own nose. At the same time, her external characteristics absolutely did not confirm the presence of any flaws, including problems with her nose.

We worked with her for a long time, using various psychological techniques and methods, which I have a high level of knowledge due to high-quality education. However, I realized that the method of psychotherapy is absolutely powerless in this clinical case. The patient could not step over the barrier of her insecurity due to the subjective feeling of problems in her appearance.

A fixed idea does not allow for a favorable outcome of psychotherapy.

After the plastic surgery for the correction of the nose, the client did not need psychological support. Her problem was resolved.

Diagnostic route for a patient with aesthetic imperfections

O.Sh.: Such cases of normalization of the emotional state after surgery are extremely rare. However, they have the right to exist, given the diversity of personal characteristics of each individual.

A competent psychologist helps to prioritize existing problems in a person's life and helps to realize which reason is paramount against the background of less significant ones. After such detailed work with a psychologist, it is possible to make an informed decision regarding the need for cosmetic and plastic interventions.
