A lot has changed in the modern world: people's opportunities and needs have become much greater, many borders have been erased, prohibitions have been lifted. Of course, such changes have affected every sphere of life of a modern person, including its aesthetic component. In the practice of aesthetic medicine specialists, there are often cases when patients of different sexes want to somewhat change their appearance, giving it more coarse, or, conversely, feminine features. Dermatologist and cosmetologist Makarchuk Irina Nikolaevna spoke about gender characteristics in modern injection cosmetology especially for readers of estet-portal.com.
How relevant is the problem of gender characteristics in cosmetology today?
Gender specifics are becoming very popular these days. Starting in 2014, when Conchita Wurst appeared on stage as a woman, but with a beard, it impressed the society so much that special attention began to the third gender, the so-called transgenders or bigenders. There are so many models who, in the form of a female body with a male face, or vice versa, are building their careers perfectly now, in our days.
The problem of gender became popular when questions arose about what a real man should be and what a real woman should be, or a portrait of an ideal man and an ideal woman.
We haven't done the research, as it should be, but we understand that the beauty of – this concept is vague, and for each person it is different.
In terms of aesthetics, is the trend of feminization or masculinization prevailing today?
To be honest, somehow everything is transformed. Women want more masculine features, starting with the eyebrows, they want wide and straight, more masculine facial features, an increase in the lower third of the face. And men, somehow on the contrary, become softer, more feminized. My personal opinion – all the same, you need to somehow adhere to harmony, this is probably the most basic thing. Harmony and health – it is beauty, both men and women. When a patient comes to us, we should ask him: what would you like, why did you contact us, for what purpose, for the purpose of transformation, or to emphasize what is already there, those features and some highlights that are , in fact, in the face.
Are there times when a patient wants to have a procedure that does not match their gender? (H2)
Patients say directly, I want you to try to fight it somehow or not, this is a personal opinion and the doctor's capabilities, but, of course, we are trying to explain, tell and show. But a person who wants will find every opportunity. If he does not come to you – he will come to another, third, fourth, and, definitely, they will do some nonsense.
Do such patients need to consult a psychotherapist?
This is such a line when we understand that it is very necessary, and the client, unfortunately, perceives it with hostility: and I, what, am sick, and why, and why. Yes, we understand that it is needed, and we ourselves, as psychologists, are trying to explain how it is right, whether it is necessary or not.
We, in principle, I mean specialists in aesthetic medicine, such a collection of everything – and a psychologist, and a doctor, and a dermatologist, a surgeon, that is, such a combined profession.
When can you refuse a patient a procedure?
In cases where he does not need this correction, in cases where we really observe serious psychological disorders, in cases of contraindications to the procedure, and, probably, some individual characteristics.
What is the correct way to refuse a patient if the specialist believes that there is no need for the procedure?
This is a tricky question, because oftentimes young professionals will do anything to get things done, just to win a client, just to win someone, and in the end make money. Therefore, here, to be honest, the question is for the specialist himself, whether he wants to refuse, and the question of the gentleness of character, the temperament of the doctor himself. It is very difficult to advise something, and it is always an individual work of the doctor and the patient.
