It is sometimes difficult to determine which techniques and preparations will provide optimal results when working with the jawline in men. The author believes that in this case the combined approach is always the most advantageous.

For the correction of the lower part of the face oval in men, the author chooses a filler with a relatively high elasticity and viscosity, since it will be affected by several deforming forces, especially in the area of the masticatory muscles. To work in the deep layers of the face, the author uses the Juvéderm Voluma filler, Restylane Lyft and Teosyal RHA 4 products are also well suited for these purposes.
Techniques for administering the product depend on the practitioner's personal preference, however, both needle and cannula work is often required to correct this area, especially near the facial artery, where many practitioners prefer to use a cannula. Gradual augmentation or correction over several sessions is also recommended to avoid overcorrection.

Using a needle, the author injects deep boluses of the filler into the periosteum at the angle of the mandible. As a rule, if 2 syringes of 1 ml of the drug are used for correction, approximately 0.3-0.5 ml of the gel is injected on each side at two or three points. The author then injects a bolus of approximately 0.1-0.2 ml bilaterally, just below the mandibular constrictor ligament, to correct minor defects in this area.

Then, if the chin needs to be squared up, the author will inject a deep bolus of 0.1-0.2 ml of filler into the chin protrusion on each side.
In some cases, subcutaneous injection of the product using a cannula along the body of the mandible may be necessary. It is important to remember that this is a high-risk area, since the marginal branch of the facial nerve and facial vessels pass through it.
Botulinum toxin for men's jawline correction
Neurotoxins can also be used to work on the jawline, particularly in the presence of jowls. In this case, the author asks the patient to fully contract the subcutaneous muscle of the neck, and at this moment marks the bundles, the strongest of which are located behind the retaining ligament of the mandible.
The author then injects the neurotoxin along these bundles. It is important to make sure that the most superficial insertion point is located at least 1 cm below the bottom line of the face oval – this avoids unwanted distribution of the drug and relaxation of the muscles that lower the corner of the mouth. For this area, 20-25 units of botulinum toxin are sufficient (in this case, we are talking about off-label use of the drug). Also, if necessary, botulinum toxin can be injected into the mental muscle.
When working with the jaw line in older patients, the reduction in skin elasticity and the weakening of SMAS must also be taken into account. If these changes are present, HIFU and RF therapy can be used in addition to injectable techniques.
