Acne Symptoms Observed in Study Patients

There were 47 patients under observation for acne, among them 28 women and 19 men aged 16 to 37 years.

The duration of their illness varies from six months to 16 years.

Half of the patients have mild acne and the other half have moderate acne.

Patients were treated both in a hospital, outpatient setting, and at home. Treatment consisted of systemic antibacterials, antiseptics, topical retinoids and antiandrogens.

The control group consisted of 15 healthy people.

With a mild degree of acne on the skin of the face, chest and shoulder girdle, as well as on the neck, open and closed comedones, single miliary papules pink and superficial pustules.

Most patients had hyperpigmented spots.

With moderate severity there were more rashes.

7 patients had deep pustules and nodules, 9 patients had small atrophic scars.

During the observation, it was revealed that in patients suffering from acne, there is a redistribution of glycogen content in leukocytes of peripheral blood, which depends on the severity of the pathological process.

This indicates changes in the energy potential of their individual subpopulations.

Thus, the content of the metabolite in neutrophils with mild acne decreased to MCC= 2.05 (in control 2.31).

These indicators were formed due to the inhibition of the total number of PAS-positive cells and hemoelements with an average glycogen content.

With moderate severity of the process, the MCC decreased to 1.72, and this was also against the background of inhibition of PAS-positive cells and cells with an average glycogen content.

However, the number of hemoelements with a low metabolite content remained within the physiological limits.

Thus, in the neutrophils of the peripheral blood of patients with acne, the glycogen content is inhibited,which in turn is accompanied by an increased level of the metabolite in monocytes.

Such changes indicate a restructuring of the metabolic activity of phagocytes. Such changes in the metabolic activity of phagocytes should be taken into account when choosing a therapeutic tactic.

Changes in the cells of the immune system may be an additional criterion for the appropriateness of individualized metabolic therapy in the complex treatment of acne.
