Как стать хорошим спикером: говорите так, чтобы Вас слушали и слышали

Why does a modern person need to be able to speak in public? Many consider this skill to be a pleasant, but completely optional bonus. In the meantime, it's worth considering. A huge number of people have an incredible amount of valuable information for others.

Many people know their topic thoroughly, but when they need to explain something on it, they get lost and send people to another person. The other person will definitely take advantage of this moment. This is how other brands arise, someone else's infobusiness…

While one person is afraid to speak in public, others become popular and earn a lot. How to change the situation?

Mikhail Miskun, teacher of speech technique, acting and public speaking, spoke about this at  Conference BusinesShot-3.0.

How to become a good speaker: basic rules

Recently, quite a few business owners have faced the fact that partners require a presentation of the first persons of the company. Especially when it comes to Western business partners. They may not be interested in representatives of HR or PR departments — they want to see and hear the first face of the company. Therefore, if you are faced with a fear of public speaking, you will have to work on yourself.

Anyone can become a speaker, experts say. A good speaker, of course. We all communicate every day in one way or another. And the speaker just knows how to convey certain information and a specific message to a specific audience.

Speakers can be divided into several types:

1.Speaker-lecturer.
We all studied in schools and universities and saw such speakers. They monotonously read from a piece of paper, and no one wanted to go to their couples. They may have a huge amount of useful information, but they don’t know how to present it interestingly. They can hardly be considered a good example of conveying thoughts to the audience, right? Therefore, you just need to try not to fall into "lecturing".

2. Speaker-trainer.
A speaker who teaches, conducts trainings and all kinds of developmental and educational activities. Usually such people have developed pedagogical abilities. If you are engaged, for example, in the information business, you should become a speaker-trainer in order to be able to fully “pump” the skills of their clients.

3. Sales speaker.
Here everything is clear with almost no explanation. There are people who can even sell bananas in Africa, as the people say. Someone has a selling vein given by nature itself, while someone develops this skill all his life. If you have a traditional business model, then this is an example to follow.

The golden rule for every speaker is to be seen, heard and understood.

Each of these rules can also be explained in detail:

  1. Visibility.
There are usually no problems with the first point, because the representative of the company understands that he is the face of the company during the speech, so he is in the center of attention.

      2. Audibility.
You can make a bright presentation, dress nicely, but if you don’t know how to intonate with your voice, then the performance easily turns into a failure.

A well-trained voice will help to fully capture the attention of the audience.

You don't have to have a big voice, but you do need to work on it. Because the voice, as the most unpredictable speaker tool, tends to break down, get tired — especially if you talk at the event for more than one hour.
Regular training and voice work — a guarantee that the ligaments will not let you down at the most inopportune moment.

There are many techniques and systems to "harden" your voice, make it more plastic and even slightly change the timbre.

Speech literacy — also a very important point.

3. Comprehensibility.
- Articulation.
- Clear and correct pronunciation.
- Proper pauses.
- Not too fast speech, so that words are not swallowed.
- Simple and clear speech constructions so that the meaning of what was said was available to everyone (do not express yourself in vocabulary a la Dostoevsky and complex professional terms).

What else matters for a successful speaker

  1. Appearance.
He, first of all, must be neat, tidy. The rest — a matter of taste.

   2. Fear of forgetting the text.
To prevent one of the biggest fears of all speakers from coming true, you need to carefully prepare.

You need to prescribe not just the text of the speech, but even jokes, stories from life and everything else that you can dilute and supplement your speech if you feel a stupor.

Then, any time a sequence of speech falls out of your head, you can buy yourself some time. For example, a trainer can give a task to the audience. In extreme cases, you can leave a little earlier for a coffee break.

3. Independence from the opinions of others.
If you went on stage, they will talk about you anyway. And no matter what they say, it will still be PR for you. That is, this is a plus, even regardless of the success of the performance itself.

Compulsory points in preparation for the performance:

  1. Self-presentation
This is not just a story about who you are and what you do — it's more of a feeling. You need to learn to present yourself with pride and dignity, telling clients how much effort and skill you have invested in your business. You — and there is your company and your product. Therefore, you will not be able to tell about yourself — you won't know about the product either. By the way, it is this skill that also helps to successfully negotiate.

     2. Product Presentation
To say a few words about a new product is possible only for a client with whom you have been in contact for a long time. Everyone else needs a clear, dynamic and "delicious" Tell them about the benefits of your service or product. And this story should, as they say, just bounce off the teeth.

      3. Presentation form (light and aggressive)
A softer or vice versa assertive form of delivery should be chosen depending on your temperament and the audience for which the performance is intended. If a certain form of presentation is easier, it is better not to force yourself to another — risk sounding unnatural.

As you already understood, anyone can be a speaker. After all, any professional makes such only practice — lots of practice!

Having spoken once in front of your relatives, you will not become a speaker. But having worked at least a few times with difficult audiences, you will automatically learn to keep people's attention.
