After anti-aging procedures, each patient wants to get the desired result as soon as possible and return to their usual mode of life, without wasting time on rehabilitation and dealing with possible side effects and complications. At the same time, any invasive procedure is stressful for the skin, provides for a recovery period and is associated with the risk of adverse events. The discomfort associated with this kind of exposure can be minimized by properly preparing the skin for invasive interventions. How to do this, in an interview for estet-portal.com, Svetlana Korkunda told – Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor, Department of Combustiology, Reconstructive and Plastic Surgery, Kharkiv Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education.
Why does the skin need to be prepared for invasive interventions? How does this affect the outcome of the procedure?
The goal of any cosmetic procedure – get the desired result based on the change in the qualitative characteristics of the skin. That is why we suggest that specialists include a preparation phase for each patient, especially if they plan to subsequently perform any powerful invasive procedure that involves a rehabilitation period. This can be, for example, volumetric volumization, thread plastics or powerful hardware techniques.
This preparation ensures that:
- tissues were prepared for stress (injury with cannulas, needles, injection or threaded implants, operations, hardware exposure);
- tissues were ready for subsequent reorganization, that is, for the active work of fibroblasts, the formation of new connective tissue structures;
- rehabilitation (the period of immediate external manifestations and discomfort for the patient) was minimal, as well as the risk of side effects.
What effect do enzymes have on the skin? What effect do they achieve?
The enzymes in the form we inject are virtually indistinguishable from our own enzymes that work in our skin. Having studied the possibilities of recombinant enzymes, as well as putting into practice knowledge in the field of biochemistry, normal physiology and pathophysiology, we came to the conclusion that such drugs have many therapeutic and prophylactic effects when working in different protocols. Thus, substances are introduced from the outside that duplicate the work of the skin's own enzymes and improve its work at the level of its own structures. Speaking about the actual clinical effects, we get a reduction in the volume of adipose tissue on the face and body and tissue tightening.
Carrying out invasive procedures on healthy and prepared tissues allows you to shorten the rehabilitation period, get a more pronounced result and a lasting effect.
How can enzyme therapy prolong the action of powerful invasive procedures? (H2)
If we talk about the use of three enzymes, then their clinical effect is a decrease in the size of fat cells and an increase in the activity of processes occurring in the connective tissue. Thus, further invasive techniques – whether it is volumetric volumization, filament plastic surgery or a powerful hardware procedure – are already applied on healthy and prepared tissues, which naturally affects both rehabilitation, the severity of the result, and the duration of the effect.
Patients often do not believe in the possibilities of topical cosmetology, including enzyme therapy. What arguments can convince them?
I don't think anyone needs to be persuaded. It is important to give facts and arguments about what this or that substance does in tissues. To date, we are considering the local application of enzymes in different contexts. These topics are discussed at the training events of the company "Intercosmetic Group", the results of our clinical studies will be presented in scientific articles. Now we can offer patients various modes that allow us to achieve pronounced aesthetic results both in the correction of any acute situations, and, for example, for working with local fat deposits, but not with weight in general.
Therefore, in this matter, the awareness of both the specialist and the patient about the mechanisms of the products and the results that they allow to achieve plays a decisive role. This requires solid, qualitative and objective facts.
Prospects for the use of enzyme therapy are quite large, the main thing – understand how products work and obtain information not only from manufacturers and their representatives, but also from independent sources.
How do you assess the prospects for the use of enzyme therapy in aesthetic medicine?
The more I work with enzymes, the more I see opportunities and perspectives for their application. If we started work exclusively in the context of local impact on adipose tissue, and then – to cicatricial, today protocols have been developed for use in the rehabilitation regimes of patients after invasive procedures, for example:
- aptos thread plasty;
- volume fillers;
- some surgical interventions;
- in the presence of inflammatory processes.
Therefore, the prospects for enzymatic therapy are quite large, the main thing – understand the principle of action of products in tissues and obtain the correct information not only from representatives, distributors and manufacturers, but also from independent sources, such as textbooks on biochemistry and human physiology.
