At the recent International Scientific and Practical Conference organized by the Emet company, the report on the complex treatment of scar tissue using the Meso-Wharton P199 preparation, which was presented by Anna Stenko, MD, was of great interest to the audience. head of the cosmetology department of JSC "Institute of Plastic Surgery and Cosmetology", cosmetologist of the Center for Cosmetology and Aesthetics "Embassy of Beauty" (Moscow).
Especially for estet-portal.com readers, Anna Stenko answered several questions regarding her own experience with Emet products.
Why, in your opinion, is the search for new methods of scar tissue treatment very relevant today?
- Of all the patients who come to our department, 25-30% are patients with scars. Approximately 55.5 thousand people with various problems – with age-related changes, with skin diseases, with the need to remove various neoplasms, and out of this number of applicants, almost a third of – have problems with scars. This is a fairly high number. Since we are one of the central institutions in Moscow, which also deals with some expert issues regarding the assessment of the correctness of treatment, & nbsp; and cicatricial pathology for quite a long period of time – about 25 years, the institute already has various developments in the treatment of scars. A large number of patients
Do you combine Meso-Wharton P199 with other scar tissue treatments? What effect do you get?- We have little experience with Meso-Wharton P199– somewhere around 3.5 years. But already we have a very large number of patients – those who are satisfied with the result. Many patients, when they comprehensively treat scar tissue using Meso-Wharton P199 and see a wonderful effect, & nbsp; then they already come to some special programs with this drug - & nbsp; for rejuvenation, for relief correction, for narrowing pores. And I would like to note that since we started working with the drug, it has certainly been gaining momentum.
How do patients feel about the fact that the doctor plans to use not only hardware techniques, but also Meso-Wharton P199 in the treatment of scar tissue?
- Patients are treated well. They trust doctors. When a patient comes to us for the first time, the decision about the choice of tactics for the treatment of scar tissue for him is taken with the help of a special council, where the advice of the best plastic surgeons, and cosmetologists, and specialists in the field of regenerative medicine, and physiotherapists are heard. An individual correction plan is drawn up for the patient, and subsequently he gradually follows our recommendations, usually without asking questions – why Meso-Wharton P199? If the doctor has decided that this remedy is the best for the given situation, in solving the given problem, then the patients usually accept this choice.
If a patient with a history of keloid scars is going for surgery, what protocol would you recommend for them to avoid possible complications?
- In this case, the main – this is prevention. To date, there is a so-called genetic passport, which is issued on the basis of blood tests, with the involvement of geneticists who conduct a certain survey, taking into account all the probands from different generations. And this panel of connective tissue – the basis of the genetic passport in relation to the prognosis of a keloid scar - it exists today. These are 13-15 pages of small typographical text containing information about the examination, test results, etc. & nbsp; This is not done often, but prophylactically, in order to answer the questions: will there be a scar or not, in what area and with what percentage of probability.
As for the direct prevention of keloid scars, here, of course, time is needed. As soon as the stitches are removed – silicones are used, & nbsp; irradiation, drugs that can contribute to the correct, say, regeneration of scar tissue. Therefore, all these methods should also be offered to patients, as well as filling out a genetic passport.
Today, we do not have a wide experience of using Meso-Wharton P199 before surgical operations, and we did not keep statistics on how the scar will form later, the scarring process will go through. But, of course, given all the modern features of this drug, it can have good prognosis as a means of improving postoperative skin condition and scar formation.
