Plastic surgeon — special profession. He must have a sober head and the ability to always remain a doctor, adequately evaluate himself and not lose touch with reality, be in constant readiness and not forget that the main thing — patient's health, quality of life.

Among plastic surgeries that significantly affect the quality of life of patients, breast correction surgery always occupies a special place. Plastic surgeon Ilya Vyacheslavovich Sergeev, candidate of medical sciences, full member of the Society for Plastic Reconstructive Aesthetic Surgery (OPREH) and the European Confederation of Aesthetic Surgery, chief surgeon of the clinic, reflects on why such operations can be considered unsuccessful, how to avoid complications and what is important when performing mammoplasty. “Dr. Plastic”.

Every now and then we learn about unsuccessful breast augmentation surgery, that someone has remade the breast again and failed again! What is the main reason for such alterations, and how to avoid it?

- First of all, it is necessary to distinguish really unsuccessful surgeries from surgeries whose results do not meet the expectations of patients. Few people know that the most common reason for patient dissatisfaction — not a mistake of the surgeon and not a complication that has arisen, but a discrepancy between the result obtained and the expectations. Quite often after the operation it turns out that the surgeon did not quite what the patient wanted from him. For ourselves, we solved this problem by introducing computer technology for accurate modeling of the result of the operation, developed in cooperation with German scientists. This method allows you to accurately calculate and agree with the client the result of the operation in advance.

But there are not only misunderstandings, but also complications. How often do you encounter them? What are the complications, what is the reason for their occurrence, and how to avoid them?

- Number of "complicated operations" on breast augmentation is not very large. One of the most serious complications is capsular contracture. This is the formation of a rigid fibrous capsule around the implant. The capsule can form during the first year after the operation and several years after it. The patient's chest becomes hard, painful, takes on an unnatural spherical shape. In this case, the implants are replaced, during which the fibrous capsule is excised. On average, from 1% to 5% of all operations, depending on the brand of implants, end up with such a complication. We have only had one case of such a complication in five years of operation.

The second complication — rejection of implants. Reason — infection. In this case, the implants must be removed and treated appropriately. After 1-2 months after complete recovery, a second operation can be performed.

Inflammation and infections are most often encountered by patients who have undergone plastic surgery on the basis of city clinics. The reason is that the operating theaters of city hospitals and clinics often do not meet the sterility requirements necessary for this type of operation, since not only plastic, but also other types of operations are performed there. Unfortunately, very little is said about this issue. And many patients, choosing a cheap clinic, do not think about the fact that they save not only on the quality of service and the comfort of the ward, but, possibly, on their own safety.

Another possible complication of — asymmetry development. Over the months following surgery, the implants are gradually lowered until they are in their final position. Sometimes it happens unevenly. In this case, a small corrective operation is performed.

It is known that high-quality implants give a lower percentage of complications, but is there a "black list"? implants that you do not recommend?

- As for our "black list" implants - it exists. We do not work with implants that have not been certified. We use only high quality and certified implants. from well-known manufacturers with a lifetime warranty. Their important features are a reliable multilayer shell and a cohesive gel that will not leak out even if the shell is cut with a scalpel. Personally, I love Natrelle implants, they have never let me down.

Patients often ask how to find a good surgeon. What would you recommend?

The main difference between a good surgeon — consistently good results and a low failure rate. Look at the results, talk on forums with former patients, read reviews. Experience matters a lot. An experienced and qualified surgeon knows different methods of performing the operation. He is not limited to any one technology, so he can find the best solution for each patient.

What is more important in the profession of a plastic surgeon: talent or diligence?

Surgeon — special profession. There is even an expression: "a surgeon from God." So they say about those who have a special gift — "light hand". A talented surgeon sometimes succeeds in what his most diligent and hardworking colleagues cannot achieve. I think if a person is not given talent by nature, he will not become a good surgeon, no matter how hard he tries.
But talent alone is still not enough. A good surgeon must have a sober head and the ability to always remain a doctor. Success should not interfere with adequate self-assessment. You can't lose touch with reality. The surgeon should not relax or calm down. It is very dangerous. You have to be in constant readiness and do not forget that the main thing — patient's health. A plastic surgeon is not a fashionable "body designer", but a doctor,
