What happens during iontophoresis
Iontophoresis as a physical method has been known for more than 200 years and has been actively used in cosmetology for about 70 years. During the ionization process, a galvanic current is applied through the electrodes, which has a positive effect on smooth muscle tone. This, in turn, increases vascular tone and helps smooth the skin.
This property of galvanic current is actively used in practical cosmetology. The movement of ions during iontophoresis makes it possible to deliver drugs and other water-soluble substances to the deep layers of the skin.
The clinical effect during the iontophoresis procedure is higher than simply applying the product to the skin, since the active substances are in an ionized state, which significantly increases their bioavailability.

That is, iontophoresis is a combination of the therapeutic effect of galvanic current and a medicinal substancetva, which is administered by electrophoresis.

During iontophoresis, the active substance penetrates 2 cm deep into the skin, forming a kind of depot under the skin, which lasts for about 2 weeks. A depth of 2 centimeters is quite large because simpleapplying the product to the skin allows it to barely penetrate 0.1 mm of the stratum corneum of the epidermis.
Main clinical effects of iontophoresis
Many cosmetologists have noticed that any type of skin is readily saturated with the injected substance using iontophoresis, and many skin problems are also effectively eliminated.
Iontophoresis effects:

Contraindications for iontophoresis
When performing iontophoresis, a gauze tape with a water-soluble preparation is applied to the skin. It is possible to use conductive gel with extracts of various origins. Within 10 minutes, the skin is treated with active electrode. Each substance is injected from its own electrode - negative or positive.
Contraindications for the ionization procedure:
- neoplasms;
- wound or purulent processes;
- febrile conditions;
- heart failure;
- systemic skin diseases;
- violation of the integrity of the skin;
- patients with a pacemaker;
- thyroid diseases in the acute stage;
- if the procedure is performed on the face – sinusitis or frontal sinusitis in the acute stage;
- tumor processes of the mammary gland;
- patients with gold thread reinforcement;
- pregnancy period.

With the help of the iontophoresis procedure, the skin is filled with various substances: ampoule pharmaceuticals, plant juices, lotions, gels, solutions. In order to improve facial skin tone, vitamin and mineral complexes, mud preparations and hyaluronic acid preparations are used.
