Modern methods of face correction are becoming more and more effective due to the introduction of the latest technologies in aesthetic medicine. Especially for estet-portal.com readers Maurizio Ceccarelli – professor, director of the International Center for Study and Research in Aesthetic Medicine and Physiology, scientific referent and one of the founders of plasmolifting, professor of the Department of Clinical Physiology of the Medical University of Barcelona (Spain) and Rome (Italy) – shared his opinion about the method of liposuction and the use of platelet-rich plasma.
The essence of the liposoving method for face correction
M.Ch.: The purpose of the appearance of the liposoving method was to replace lipofilling with it. In lipofilling, we use patients' autologous fat to fill in some voids that have formed under the skin, or to correct the volume with the fat itself.
In liposoving, we use stem cells from the patient's fat, and our task – isolate these cells, and subsequently, with their help, restore and regenerate the adipose tissue itself. The stem cells that we extract and inject into the patient's adipose tissue will inform the already present fat cells that they must multiply, must grow to a size determined by nature.

If we consider lipofilling, then its peculiarity is that we fill certain areas with fat, but over time they tend to empty. Either way, the effect wears off. With liposoving, we carry out regeneration, we restore the tissue. And after the tissue has recovered, it remains almost forever.
The liposoving method can be used on any part of the body, including the face - in those areas where we want to regenerate adipose tissue.
It is important to understand that this method is not used in areas of the body where fat is not present. For example, if we consider the face, then this method cannot be used for regeneration in the area of the zygomatic bones, because there is bone tissue there, but this method is very well suited for filling the cheeks, for example, or nasolabial folds, where adipose tissue is already present.
How do you feel about the use of platelet-rich plasma in aesthetic medicine
M.Ch.: I prefer to consider the PRP method as a correction method that uses platelet-rich plasma. I consider it already as regenerative medicine. And before applying any method in aesthetic medicine, including liposoving, it is necessary, first of all, to regenerate the skin itself, the dermis itself. Therefore, I consider this issue much more seriously and much deeper – as a regenerative technique.
What are the prospects of the liposoving method in aesthetic medicine
M.Ch.: As you understand, regenerative medicine is the future, so I believe that all new discoveries that will occur in the future will be related to regenerative medicine. Unfortunately, there is such a phenomenon: when a new method appears, and there is still very little scientific knowledge about it, then a lot of improvisations take place with it, a lot of different interpretations appear, which are often not at all correct.
It is very important to first deeply study the new method, understand it, penetrate it, and then use it in practice. This also applies to platelet growth factors and stem cells. And only then, when all this is really studied, realized, the method can be applied in your daily practice.
What are the indications for the PRP method in aesthetic medicine?
M.Ch.: In any case, when we want to increase, improve proliferation, metabolism in any organ – whether it be skin cells or another organ.
How do you feel about the methods of using mesothreads? Your opinion about them
M.Ch.: I have been doing research in this area for many years – especially in relation to anti-aging techniques in aesthetic medicine. I want to tell you this news: there are no miracles. I have never seen them. If we talk about threads, then they work, but only if you connect some additional procedures to their use. But by themselves, so that they have a strong anti-aging effect – I highly doubt it.
Firstly, mesothreads provoke the formation of fibrosis. And since fibrosis tends to retract, under the influence of this retraction, the skin is tightened and smoothed. If we consider the action of the threads at the biological level, then this is a negative moment for the body, since we provoked the production of collagen of the first type – fibrous. However, the same fibrous collagen allows you to get an aesthetic result.
So we have to weigh – whether we should prefer a biological or aesthetic result.
