On March 16-17, 2018, the international congress for plastic surgeons and cosmetologists ICAMPS was held in Kyiv. Well-known experts in aesthetic medicine from all over the world were invited to the event as speakers. Candidate of Medical Sciences, dermatovenereologist of the highest category, cosmetologist, chief physician of the Madeleine Cosmetology Center shared her impressions of the congress with estet-portal.com. Valentina Zolotareva.

Why did you decide to attend the ICAMPS congress?

I believe that every educated doctor has a duty to learn, whether he is a novice, has some experience, or has already become a guru. We are obliged to attend such events in order to understand what new trends have appeared in the world of aesthetic medicine, and how applicable they are  in our practice. Such events are a great opportunity to make new friends, and communication of this kind is enriching in itself. We always exchange opinions, and in such conversations with colleagues, you can learn a lot.

What is your impression of the ICAMPS International Congress?

Congress is amazing. World speakers, people with vast experience, candidly share their best practices.

It is important to be able to accept and filter knowledge based on your work and experience, and only then apply it.

I will not say that you need to immediately start working with new methods, since each of them requires a certain preparation. For myself at the congress I, so to speak, "checked the clock". A colleague from England (Dr. Christopher Roland Payne, editorial note) spoke about the multi-point technique of applying botulinum toxin. I was pleased that I have been doing this for 20 years, and have previously taught this technique to many beauticians. And when such an authoritative teacher talks about this technique, for me it is confirmation that all these years I have been on the right track.

Do you think the younger generation should attend such events?

Young novice doctors should have good basic knowledge. It's like after graduating from a medical university, only after 5 years you become a specialist. Aesthetic medicine is developing rapidly, but it takes time to acquire skills. It is necessary to work with a large number of patients, to develop their own work protocols. The flow of patients can be different, so the level of training of all doctors is different. To become a specialist, you need to attend such events, but just do not try to do everything at once.

What are the most relevant trends in 2018 in your practice?

I always adhere to the basic principle of cosmetology: external preparations should dominate. I also prefer correct skin diagnostics, proper home care and professional procedures using hardware cosmetology.  Only after that I move on to injection techniques.

If the skin is not cleansed and prepared, no injection techniques will solve its problems.

It's very nice when you hear  instructions regarding the fact that therapeutic cosmetology should dominate. I am glad that world brands are appearing on the market, which, obviously, had no place before. Now priority is given to a high professional level and professional cosmetics.
