Hair oil or oil in general that can be used for care considered one of the oldest beauty products, and in recent years it has seen a renaissance of sorts in terms of popularity and effectiveness. Why is it so? Perhaps none of those who have ever used, for example, argan oil or jojoba oil, will be surprised – because these wonderful natural liquids easily solve the problems of dry hair and rough skin.
Whether anti-aging, deep regeneration or hydration, natural vegetable oil is almost always the best solution.

Many modern hair care products contain silicones and paraffins, which make it possible to make hair shiny, lush, easy to style. Unlike silicones and paraffins, vegetable oils belong to the so-called natural care. They provide hair and skin with vitamins (A, B, E, etc.), minerals, have excellent antioxidant effects and allow for deep regeneration.
I would like to describe the properties of some of the most widely known and used vegetable oils in cosmetics, which are also great for dry hair care.
1. Grape seed hair oil
Cold-pressed grapeseed oil is dark green to golden green in color and has a rich, sour-sweet odor (refined oil is odorless).
Grape seed oil contains:
- nearly 90% unsaturated fatty acids,
- 68% linoleic acid – very rare and important for the body - which is an absolute record,
- lecithin,
- useful minerals,
- vitamins A, B6 and E.
Grape seed oil absorbs very well into the hair. It has properties similar to olive oil, but it can be easily rinsed out and you can use it without any risk of darkening your hair color. No other oil (with the possible exception of argan oil) hydrates hair as much and makes it incredibly soft.
2. Avocado oil for hair
Avocado oil is yellowish green to dark green in color. It is rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids omega-3 and omega-9, phytosterols, lecithin. Avocado oil contains potassium and vitamins A, C, B2, B6, D and E. Like macadamia, avocado oil is characterized by a high content of palmitoleic acid, quickly and deeply penetrates the skin, holds moisture phenomenally well.
This oil is a strong antioxidant; stimulates cell regeneration and strengthens connective tissue. Cold-pressed avocado oil is ideal for stressed and dry skin (even sun-damaged or eczema-prone skin) and is also helpful in treating scars.
Has a small sun protection factor
Avocado oil is especially recommended for dry and color-treated hair as it will make the color last longer and allow dry hair to regain its shine.
3. Argan hair oil
Argan oil has a very light texture, a yellowish color and a "funny" smell in my opinion. It contains about 80 percent unsaturated fatty acids (among others, it contains linoleic acid, which makes hair supple and elastic. Argan oil is very plastic, provides intensive care for hair, skin and nails. Due to the antioxidants it contains, it is often used in anti-wrinkle care.
Argan oil retains moisture in the skin cells and provides optimal protection against moisture loss. Thanks to the polyphenols it contains, it is considered one of the most effective antioxidants. The oil acts as an excellent anti-aging cosmetic.
Especially recommended for normal to dry scalp and dry hair.
In terms of hair care, argan oil promotes hair growth and makes it incredibly shiny.
4. Olive oil for hair
Olive oil is classified as a "heavy" oil because it absorbs very slowly into the skin, is very thick and difficult to wash off when applied to the hair.Olive oil-for-hair is characterized by a very high content of oleic acid, which is responsible for its moisturizing and protective properties. Olive oil also contains vitamins A and E.
When using olive oil for hair, it can be quite difficult to get used to its smell.
It perfectly nourishes very dry skin and brittle hair, restoring their health and elasticity.
Olive oil is not suitable for problematic skin because it is comedogenic. This oil can change the color of the hair.
5. Almond hair oil
Almond oil is thin, light, light yellow in color, smells very discreet and pleasant. It has a very high proportion of monounsaturated fatty acids (including linoleic acid), the oil is rich in vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, D and E. Most often, almond oil is used as an additive to creams and balms for dry skin and for body care in infants.
Almond oil is a completely versatile hair and skin care product, also suitable for very sensitive skin.
In hair care, almond oil is often underestimated. However, it makes the hair very soft and gives it a beautiful shine. Almond oil can also be applied to bleached hair.
6. Macadamia oil for dry hair
Macadamia nut hair oil has an unusual fatty acid composition, and the amount of palmitoleic acid in it is comparable to animal fats. It contains vitamins A, E, B. This oil is distinguished by its intensity of action combined with ease of absorption. It provides effective regeneration of dry skin and brittle, split ends, and has a low SPF factor.
7. Jojoba oil for hair care
Few people know that jojoba oil is actually a wax that is in a liquid state even at low temperatures. Jojoba oil has a high content of provitamin A and vitamins E, F, used in face and body care, makes the skin smooth and elastic, prevents moisture loss, has SPF 4. It can be used for combination, normal and dry skin (it does not clog pores).
In hair care - due to its light texture - jojoba oil is particularly suitable for normal hair or as a leave-in balm for dry hair, it can also be used for bleached hair.
My advice: for a more nourishing face mask, mix it lightly with jojoba oil. Don't worry, the oil is non-comedogenic.
If your skin needs a lot of moisture, use pure jojoba oil on your face instead of a moisturizer.
8. Coconut oil for dry hair
Coconut oil is probably one of the best known oils for hair care and is used in a wide variety of cosmetic applications. At room temperature, it has a solid consistency. Coconut oil is characterized by a very high proportion of saturated fatty acids, provides long-lasting hydration; protects against the harmful effects of the environment and gives a rejuvenating effect.
Coconut oil is rich in texture and absorbs quickly but not deeply. The vitamin E and other antioxidants contained in it disappear when oil refining.
As a treatment, it can also be used on bleached hair.
Warning: Highly porous, very tired and dull, brittle hair is more likely to react badly to coconut oil.
9. Castor oil for hair care
Castor oil is heavy, very thick and is mainly used on the scalp, eyelashes and eyebrows. When mixed with other base oils, it is an excellent hair treatment.
For one thing, castor oil is very thick and viscous like syrup - it can be difficult to rub in and even harder to rinse off. On the other hand, castor oil certainly has many good properties and is ideal as an addition to hair care, as it has a structural similarity to hair keratin.
Warning: Castor oil can darken hair color.
10. Sesame hair oil
Sesame oil plays a central role in a number of Ayurvedic treatments, and in India this oil is used for all skin types. It has good regenerating properties, has a very rich composition, & nbsp; quickly absorbed. Sesame oil nourishes intensely and is therefore especially suitable for dry skin of the face and body, itchy scalp. It has a warming property, and therefore promotes blood circulation and detoxification.
Warning: You must not use sesame oil on inflamed skin or with a tendency to the manifestation of the vascular network, with fragility of capillaries.
Sesame oil penetrates deeper than other oils in the skin and is therefore an ideal carrier for active ingredients. In hair care, it is an excellent remedy for hair loss, with increased dryness and brittleness.
Virtually all of the listed oils are among my current favorites. Why? Because they offer intensive hair care, have an antioxidant effect and are easy to use. They may not be among the best, but for me they are the best investment in beauty.
