When it comes to travel planning, most people have fear-inducing scenarios. What phobias can spoil our vacation and how to avoid them in order to get real pleasure from the rest?
Pathological fear of travel (hodophobia)
To announce the entire list of travel phobias, we must first of all mention the fear of traveling. Such people experience anxiety in all situations related to travel planning. For example, booking a ticket, waiting in line at the airport, problems with transport and movement, and being far from home greatly increase the anxiety of a person suffering from this phobia.
Fear of air travel (aerophobia)
One of the most common travel phobias – aerophobia. Most people think that this is a banal fear of airplanes, helicopters and balloons, but we must not forget that the problem can be complex: in parallel, a person has other fears, for example, fear of enclosed space (claustrophobia), acrophobia (fear of heights) and even fear of nausea, vomiting (emetophobia).
Fear or hatred of everything unfamiliar (xenophobia)
You probably immediately began to remember all the familiar xenophobes. But a true xenophobe does not dare to go beyond the boundaries of his world, as he experiences fear and rejection of everything new, alien, irrational and foreign. But xenophobes are unlikely to have problems choosing places for their next trip.
Fear of the sea (thalassophobia)
Do you dream of tropical beaches where the sands are washed by gentle waves? Many of us will fly to a similar paradise on the wings of our dreams, but not a thalassophobe. The mere thought of the sea or the ocean, such a person will be thrown into a fever. Fear of the sea can manifest itself in the form of a categorical refusal to swim in it, be near it, or even fly over it.
Fear of crowds (enochlophobia)
You will rarely see even one enochlophobe at a collective meeting, because these unfortunate people deal with the fear of the crowd. They don't even get to meet new people. This can be a big problem when traveling as you can't isolate yourself from people in public places, especially in densely populated areas.
Zoophobia
If you love animals and enjoy watching their life, then do not take a zoophobe companion with you. You will not be able to visit zoos, afford excursions to national parks or enjoy an African safari just because your companion is terrified of animals. This fear can be varied, such as the fear of wild animals.
Fear of waiting too long (macrophobia)
Most of us don't like standing in line, but it's inevitable when you visit the world's greatest places. Disney Park, for example, is well known for its queues, but you're unlikely to find yourself in line with a macrophobe. Such people suffer from the fear of a long wait. I wonder how they deal with the common occurrence of flight delays?
Fear of being left without a mobile connection (nomophobia)
A relatively new phobia that appeared as a side effect of scientific and technological progress. Nothing spoils the journey of a nomophobe like the loss of mobile communications.
