Doctors know firsthand that the sun, air and water in the summer can move from the camp of friends to the enemy camp. And competently declare: the sun — skin enemy, air — environment for insects, which often become carriers of bacteria, and water even threatens with various diseases, mainly of an infectious nature.

But if you follow simple safety measures, reinforcing them with hygiene rules, then summer will be remembered as a bright pastime, says MD, Professor,  Alexander LITUS.

Running to the beach, or why redskins need sunscreen and soap

— Alexander Ivanovich, most of us cannot imagine a summer holiday without a trip to the sea…

— And at the same time, they forget that it is fraught with great risks. First of all, with an excessive dose of ultraviolet radiation, resisting which, our body responds with burns.

— Are there any preventive measures to help avoid them?

— Yes, it is necessary to sunbathe in the morning (before 11 am) or in the afternoon (from 5 pm).

— Do sunscreens help protect against UV damage?

— Only if they are used correctly. It must be remembered that the summer sun is very evil: it not only has a detrimental effect with its direct rays, but is also reflected in the water. This is why many who spend their time actively, preferring to swim, sunbathe much more than those who luxuriate in sun loungers.

Before using sunscreen, check it for allergenicity, because unwanted reactions are often caused not so much by creams as by the components included in them. Apply a little product to a small area of \u200b\u200bthe hand and wait half an hour: if during this time the skin does not turn red, you will not feel discomfort, — feel free to use it.

Sunscreen must be used correctly and reapplied:

• buy such funds only in the pharmacy chain, where they are controlled and have the appropriate certificates;
• do not chase cheap creams. They sometimes not only do not correspond to their purpose, but are also dangerous in their components;
• remember that sunscreen works for 2 hours and needs to be renewed after that;
• reapply the cream after each bath;
• before going outside, apply cream on the body and repeat this procedure after you return and take off your clothes.

— What to do if the burn could not be avoided?

— It should be remembered that burns are different. They can be obtained by contact with poisonous fish or jellyfish. But most often, in this way, vacationers pay for their irrepressible love for the sun and the desire to get a bronze tan as soon as possible. Instead, they are distinguished by a flaming body and a hanging fringe of peeling skin.
As a rule, in such cases, they seek to moisten the burns with various folk remedies. This is not entirely correct.

— What is the correct way?

— To begin with, it should be remembered that burn sites should never be overdried. You can treat them with emulgens or creams that have an anti-inflammatory effect. As a rule, this allows you to cope with a burn in a few days.

But if blisters appear in the places of inflammation, you should not try to cure them yourself, and even more so open them. This is where urgent medical attention is needed.

—In addition to sunburn, are there other diseases in the sea?

— Yes, and you don't have to go far for them. It is enough to plunge a couple of times into the water, which
in the warm season, is a fertile environment for various pathogens.

• It is very simple to prevent the possibility of infection: it is enough to take a shower after the beach and wash with plain soap. This will wash away the bulk of pathogenic organisms.

From the life of vacationers: soap will help protect yourself from venereal diseases

— Well, if a person decides to relax away from the sea, for example, in the silence of the forest…

— This is also where you need to be careful. The main danger is mites, which are especially active at this time. They are carriers of such serious diseases as tick-borne viral encephalitis and borreliosis.

• To prevent a tick from getting on your skin, when going to the forest, put on clothes that cover your body as much as possible, choose comfortable shoes, and be sure to put a cap on your head.

• If a tick is found on the body, carefully remove it so that the head does not remain in the skin. Otherwise, it may lead to re-infection.

But even if a picnic on the forest lawn is not planned, it must be remembered that insect bites can cause not only irritation or allergic reactions (up to anaphylactic shock), but also cause diseases such as encephalitis or malaria. After all, the danger of the same mosquitoes lies in the fact that they are carriers of severe infections.

Mosquito bite as a method of diagnosing a severe infectious disease:

• the mosquito bite area must be treated with an alcohol solution;
• if the bite zone on the second to fifth day not only did not decrease, but also increased, this indicates infection with borreliosis. This condition requires urgent medical care and systematic treatment.

— What else would you advise not to forget in this hot period?

— The bright sun, the lapping of the waves, the long-awaited vacation set many in a romantic mood. Summer — it is also the time of holiday romances and… venereal diseases. More than 30 types of infections are transmitted sexually.

How to protect yourself from sexually transmitted infections with simple remedies:

• if a condom breaks during intercourse, wash the genital area with soap and treat with an antiseptic;
• if after sexual contact there is discomfort, pain, redness, you should immediately consult a doctor.

As you can see, summer holidays require a serious attitude. Otherwise, you will have to pay for carelessness at the cost of your own health.
