Pre-treat the skin

No matter what method you choose to remove unwanted hair, it will injure the skin. And any injury, even the most microscopic — it is a gateway for infection and thus an increased risk factor for inflammation and  ingrown hairs.

Therefore, before you start shaving or applying depilatory cream, treat the entire surface of the skin on which the procedure will be performed with an antiseptic. It is better to prefer solutions without alcohol content — they have a tannic effect on the skin (dry and tighten), which will make it difficult to remove hair and increase pain. We recommend taking a solution of hydrogen peroxide or chlorhexidine, which will destroy the main bacterial threat and not complicate the procedure.

Check the quality of the hair removal accessories

The better the tools you use to remove hair, the less traumatic the procedure is. It is generally accepted that only shaving deserves attention, because due to a dull blade, you have to process the same area several times, and also increase pressure, which damages the skin even more.

But the old electric epilator, in which the tweezers hardly grip the hair  result    it breaks at their skin results  ingrown. A  an uneven spatula for removing depilatory cream, or if it has burrs, injures the skin in much the same way as a razor, with the exception that it is not able to cut the skin.

Refuse water treatments for the next 3-4 hours

After hair removal, antiseptic treatment is mandatory, everyone knows this. But not everyone knows that going to the shower, swimming pool or taking a bath is better to refuse for the next few hours. Water softens the skin — keratinized scales are easily separated from the surface of the skin and just as easily get clogged into  "tubules" through which hairs grow.

As  as it grows, the hair, faced with such an obstacle, deviates to side and grows not perpendicularly, but parallel to the surface of the skin or at the wrong angle. Therefore, give time to the skin to calm down, and the pores, enlarged under the influence of a cream or mechanical hair removal, close — this minimizes the chance of clogging the "moves" for hair.

Use scrubs extensively

Removal of keratinized skin particles should be carried out 2-3 days before epilation and 3-4 days after the procedure. This will minimize the likelihood of ingrown hairs, if this is caused by high density and roughness of the skin. In this case, the growing hair simply cannot "break through" through the surface of the skin and continues to grow along the path of least resistance to the side or even inward, bending 180°. And be sure to use moisturizing light lotions that maintain sufficient moisture in skin and make it softer.

What to do if ingrown hairs on  legs have already appeared

How to deal with an existing problem depends on the number of ingrown hairs. If there are several — can't do without surgery. Do not be afraid: for this you just need to take a sterile needle (it is better to use a disposable insulin syringe, which has a very thin and small needle) and gently pry off the ingrown hair.

Be sure to disinfect the skin before all manipulations, and immediately after, and treat the needle each time before proceeding with  extraction" next hair. In this time it is better to use alcohol solutions — salicylic or boric acid.

When most of the hairs grow in, and especially if pustules have formed in their place, self-treatment is unacceptable. This is due to the fact that very important blood vessels pass through the soft tissues of the legs. And when removing ingrown hairs on your own, it is easy to create conditions under which a purulent infection will spread into blood.
