As in society, in science there are 2 ways of development: evolutionary and revolutionary. The first implies development within the framework of one approach, with the expansion and deepening of knowledge, the improvement of accepted methods. Revolutionary represents a change of approaches and development in a new direction, usually after fundamental discoveries that radically change our understanding of the nature and patterns of development of the phenomenon under study.

Although today there are many effective methods for diagnosing diseases by the appearance of a person, specialists at the University of Rochester decided to go the second way and proposed an innovative method for diagnosing diseases.

Such an "examination" does not require special monitoring sensors, filling out questionnaires and taking anamnesis. Scientists hope that thanks to their development in the near future, any disease can be diagnosed by selfie video.

How does it work?

Specialists have developed an application that collects information about a person's activity and changes in his appearance. Further, based on these data, an analysis is made about the state of human health.

The app is able to self-evaluate the data obtained from the selfie video with the participation of a person. The program can even set body temperature and heart rate by complexion and other external signs. In addition, thanks to special mechanisms, it is possible to assess not only the physical, but also the mental state of the user.

At the moment, the novelty has been tested on 27 volunteers with a large collection of selfie videos. The program was able to accurately determine the emotions of people: negative, positive or neutral. Now the researchers are trying to train their app on new emotions: surprise, joy, and sadness.

Such an invention is certainly useful. But while scientists are developing and implementing it, we invite you to familiarize yourself with the methods of diagnosing internal diseases by their external manifestations on the face, tongue, hair and nails.
