Blepharoplasty − This is an operation aimed at improving the condition of the eyelids. This procedure is one of the most effective in eliminating the signs of aging. It is no secret that when talking with a person, we look into the eyes. We are fascinated by their beauty, we notice the mood of a person, read his emotions, fall in love with his eyes! But time does not spare them, unfortunately. And, often, blepharoplasty helps to remove signs of age. Anna Khorina, a plastic surgeon of the Nove Tilo clinic, a doctor of the highest category, a full member of the All-Ukrainian Association of Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgeons (UAPRES), spoke about the technique of eyelid surgery, the advantages of the operation, as well as the features of the rehabilitation period.
The main modern possibilities of eyelid surgery
The range of possibilities of blepharoplasty is quite wide: the operation allows you to eliminate age-related changes, change certain anatomical features of the eyelid, for example, the shape of the eyes. Sometimes blepharoplasty is performed to eliminate ptosis of the upper eyelid.
Eyelid surgery allows you to eliminate excess skin on the upper eyelids, get rid of bags on the lower ones, and also fight such a pathological condition as true ptosis (drooping) of the upper eyelid, which is associated with muscle dysfunction.
At the Nove Tilo Clinic with the help of blepharoplasty, we correct age-related changes and, frankly, − This is an operation that gives a really amazing effect. It allows you to rejuvenate the patient in a short period of time. And, if we evaluate the external changes after blepharoplasty and after a facelift, then sometimes a more pronounced rejuvenating effect will be just after eyelid surgery. Because the age features of the face − these are noticeable things, but we pay attention to them already in the second place. And in the first − of course, we look into the eyes.

The main features of eyelid surgery
Eyelid surgery can be performed both under local anesthesia and under general anesthesia in combination with other procedures. The duration of the operation depends on its volume. If it's only upper blepharoplasty − it can take from 15 to 45 minutes. If we are talking about combined upper and lower (quadrilateral) blepharoplasty, then it can last one and a half to two hours, depending on the tasks assigned to the surgeon. If we are talking about the rejuvenation of the upper eyelid, then during the operation, excess skin and fatty hernias are removed. If plastic surgery of the lower eyelid is performed, then, as a rule, excess skin is removed, fat lumps are removed or redistributed, and the muscle is fixed.

Rehabilitation period after eyelid surgery
In the first week after surgery, the patient should reduce physical activity or completely eliminate it. Also on the first day, we at the Nove Tilo clinic prescribe a pressure bandage − all this is necessary in order to reduce the risk of bleeding. In some cases, we administer hemostatic agents. In the future, the patient can safely camouflage bruises and swelling with the help of cosmetics. And after 2-3 weeks, bruising disappears, and a person can safely return to a normal lifestyle.
The main recommendation for all patients: if something bothers you after the operation − tell your doctor.
Complications are not so common, but self-treatment almost always ends badly. Remember, there are things that normally accompany blepharoplasty, just like any other surgery − it is swelling, bruising and a pink scar. If the scar begins to itch intensely, turns red or protrudes above the skin level − then a doctor's consultation is already necessary.
