It is generally accepted that real men do not allow themselves to give up and cry under any circumstances. However, many do not stand up and still give vent to emotions. But, whatever one may say, women cry more often than men. Scientists from Holland figured out why.

Staff at Tilburg University, who studied the gender differences that explain tearfulness, were quite surprised when they found that not all men have a strong character, despite the fact that this quality is considered one of the main advantages of the stronger sex.

The researchers interviewed 5,000 people who were residents of 37 countries. The questions seemed to be how often and for how long they cry, what makes them cry.

The fact that women cry more than men – was not news to anyone, the results of the survey once again confirmed this fact. So, in women, the eyes "in a wet place" are from 30 to 64 times a year. But it turned out to be surprising that among men there were quite a few inveterate crybabies: on average, they shed a tear from 6 to 17 times a year.

An attack of crying in 43% of women passes after 5 minutes, and 38% can calm down only after 6-15 minutes. Men, on the other hand, turned out to be more restrained: among them, 66% cried for up to 5 minutes, and only 24% of the respondents admitted that they showed such weakness for 6-15 minutes.

The most whiny women sobbed for 16-30 minutes, and these turned out to be – 11%, equally emotional men – 5%.

Women's tendency to shed tears is explained by scientists by the specific action of their hormones. At the same time, even those men who themselves are sometimes not averse to crying admitted that a crying woman basically causes irritation and a desire to ignore her.
