Sinusitis – a consequence of a cold or allergy. This is an inflammation that occurs in the air spaces in the skull (sinuses). If the symptoms of sinusitis are ignored, the lack of proper and timely treatment can result in vision problems, ear infections, and even meningitis. In this article, we will talk in detail about the treatment of sinusitis.

Sinusitis symptoms: what will indicate the disease

The main danger of sinusitis is that this disease can lead to the development of meningitis. The brain is located in a cavity, which is separated from the frontal, sphenoid and ethmoid sinuses by a rather thin bone. In this regard, the infection can easily penetrate the fluids and tissues surrounding the brain. Thus, the viruses and bacteria that cause sinusitis pose a serious danger to the body. Antibacterial drugs (Amoxiclav) should be used to prevent worsening of the condition.

The most common symptoms of sinusitis are nasal congestion and yellow or green mucus in the back of the throat.

Among the common symptoms of sinusitis are soreness in the eyes, cheeks, forehead, and nose. Sometimes the disease is accompanied by bad breath, impaired sense of smell, fever, sore throat and general weakness. In addition, with sinusitis, a cough appears, which intensifies at night.

Peculiarities of sinusitis treatment

The first step in the treatment of sinusitis is over-the-counter drugs, which are available as both tablets and nasal sprays. With the help of the latter, you can eliminate the symptoms faster, but it is not recommended to use them for more than 3 days.

Antihistamines are also used to treat sinusitis to prevent the allergic symptoms of sinusitis from developing. In this case, such drugs should be used only in the case of the treatment of sinusitis, which was provoked by an allergy. Please note that antihistamines can cause drowsiness.

Decongestants are also used to treat sinusitis. Through the use of such drugs, it is possible to reduce swelling of the vessels that line the sinuses. However, this treatment for sinusitis is not suitable for people with high blood pressure, as such drugs increase pressure.

As for the treatment of sinusitis at home, there are remedies that will help speed up recovery. Naturally, folk recipes should be used exclusively in combination with classical methods.

Rinse the nose. Dilute a quarter tablespoon of salt in warm water. Leaning over the sink, pour liquid into one of the nostrils. This procedure can temporarily relieve the symptoms of sinusitis.

Steam inhalation. For these purposes, you can use aromatic herbal leaves, menthol or eucalyptus. Thanks to the inhalation of fragrant steam, the sinus sinuses are moistened, and with the right selection of the composition for inhalation, the mucous membrane of the nasal passage is calmed.

It is important to drink plenty of fluids (plain water) while treating sinusitis, and avoid caffeine and alcohol to prevent dehydration.
