Can accurate calculation and inspiration be combined to improve the efficiency of a business?

I deal with issues related to precise calculations – is operational and project management. I like it when there is an opportunity to use when  building some models  my basic education  – applied mathematics, which allows you to apply, for example, probability theory, calculate some statistical parameters. But I have already seen in practice that no matter how well you build models, no matter how you calculate, often this change does not occur, the built business model does not works. And vice versa, when models are not built, but people have excitement, inspiration, then some miracles happen and things are done as if in spite of gravity. That's why  I try to combine accurate calculations and an emotional component, so that one does not interfere with the other.<

When building a model, one should also keep in mind the so-called listening paradox, which consists  in the fact that when you speak, for example, about subtle matters, people listen to this and perceive your speech based on their life experience. At the same time, they are surprised: & nbsp; yes, each of them had been thinking about this for a long time and now received confirmation of their thoughts in my speech. But if I later spoke with each of them separately, it would quite possibly turn out that we are talking about completely different things.

There is another feature of listening - a kind of biochemistry: if a person looks at another person and feels that it is pleasant for him to conduct a conversation,  then it does not matter what the person is talking about – he can't say anything bad. As a result, there is a sense of the value of the conversation, although the content of the conversation could be about anything.

I work at the Kyiv School of Economics, and we try to do some unusual events for students that are not related to either economics or management – for example, we learn to dance tango with a professional trainer. Since almost everyone likes the tango melody, people start dancing without thinking about their ability – it's just that the music calls, although often it looks like antics. Then we tell our listeners that with this attempt to dance the tango we wanted to demonstrate to them that even if one of them is a great master in the business world, this does not mean that he is aware of everything around and knows how to do everything. We must continue to study.  In addition, tango – a very difficult dance, and if a person overcame shyness and began to dance it, then he can withstand many other difficulties & nbsp;

These cases from practice are gradually accumulating, and it turned out that I am no longer only a specialist in mathematical modeling, but also in inspiration and excitement in my work – where does it come from, can it be controlled.

On what principles should a manager select employees in order to create an effective team?

I would go from reverse – I always recommend that people, when applying for a job, be sure to get acquainted with their future leader. It is necessary to communicate not only with the representative of the personnel service, but also with the boss with whom you will have to work. & nbsp; Try to imagine if you can learn something from him – professional or, perhaps, some life values.  It is imperative that the head of the enterprise can make his younger employees something more meaningful in life. Although there are managers who are afraid to pass on to their subordinates what they can do, for the reason that they will then incite him. Probably, there may be different options. I can imagine a company manager who is very stern and tough, but at the same time an excellent specialist in his field. And if his subordinates in some extremely difficult situation with a patient receive his professional help, they will be extremely grateful to him.  Despite the unattractive character and gloomy disposition of the boss, they will learn from him the style of work, learn from experience.

Another version of – the head of the enterprise without any special professional achievements, but who takes care of his team so much that very good specialists come to him, who are tired of living in conflicts with other clinics and want to have comfortable working conditions. In this case, they themselves will maintain the atmosphere, culture, style created by the head physician. It is important for a manager to have his own style.

Why do you think there is a competition for positions in one company, and everyone is running away from another? What determines the atmosphere in the company?

I can only share my own opinion, but it seems to me that they are drawn to that company, to that leader, where you can learn something.  With age, this is especially important – to have a number of people, watching whom, you can continue to develop. You feel young as long as changes take place in you. It is important to go to a leader who shares your values, which is important to him – that's important to you too. Today, enterprise managers are highly valued, who are able to create an atmosphere of stability and security for employees at their enterprise. It is important for the work of the company and the observance of the basic values ​​– respect for a person, for his professional qualities.
