Homeopathy — one of the most "scandalous" branches of alternative medicine. Its supporters stubbornly prove the effectiveness of treating like with like, opponents make convincing arguments about the uselessness of homeopathic remedies. Unfortunately, many consider homeopathy to be something akin to herbal medicine and dutifully buy medicines that a homeopathic doctor prescribes for them. Should whether to be treated with such drugs and in in cases homeopathy can help, and in which harm — read in this article.
Homeopathy VS official medicine: pseudoscience or therapy
WHO and Ministries of Health of most countries openly express their negative attitude towards homeopathy as a pseudoscience that has nothing to do with official medicine. Clinical trials have proven the ineffectiveness of homeopathic remedies and did differences between them and placebo.
Why, in that case, hasn't homeopathy been banned yet? There are several reasons for this.
-
Homeopathy does not harm. Indeed, homeopathic medicines do have no effect on the body. This allows them to be prescribed to those patients who believe very much in the power of pills and don't see any other way to recovery, except to take at least something.
-
Homeopathic medicines help the sick. There is sometimes a positive effect from taking such medicines, but for the same reason that soothers help with placebo effect. The patient's faith in the effectiveness of the medicine can actually work wonders, but attributing this solely to the power of homeopathy is wrong.
-
Homeopathy can be considered as one of methods of psychotherapy.Do something for your health — a very strong need for both the patient and the doctor. In in cases where conventional medicine is powerless, homeopathic remedies can become part of palliative care and perhaps faith in their efficiency will become the very healing miracle.
-
Homeopathy — profitable business. And this is probably the main reason why this science is still alive. A lot of money is invested in advertising these medicines, and the corruption and imperfection of the legal framework allow manufacturers of homeopathic medicines to seek inclusion of these products in the list of medicines.
There is a lot of controversy around homeopathy now, but this doctrine is gradually losing ground, largely due to the wide media coverage of scandals surrounding the production of homeopathic medicines. Whether homeopathy transforms into one of sections of psychotherapy, or whether it is still living its last days, time will tell.

Who is a homeopathic doctor and what does treat
Strictly speaking, the specialty "homeopathic doctor" no, that is, not a single medical university graduates specialists with such a profession. Homeopathy is studied by students either in an optional form, or as a section of the discipline "non-traditional methods of treatment". Therefore, almost all homeopathic doctors are engaged in private practice or are accepted in specialized centers and clinics. In fairness, you can only get trained as a homeopath and get a certificate/license by presenting a diploma from a medical university, so there are no people who are completely far from medicine in this area.

It cannot be said that a homeopathic doctor deliberately deceives patients by prescribing ineffective drugs to them. Many of these specialists have deep knowledge in the field of psychology, they are good diagnosticians and know how to look at the problem from different angles. The homeopath can listen to the patient, calm down and talk about his problem, which distinguishes such specialists from polyclinic doctors, who have 15 minutes to visit one patient. Sometimes this approach and the placebo effect of homeopathic medicines really help the patient to recover.
What does a homeopathic doctor treat? In most cases, such specialists treat relatively mild cases: viral respiratory infections, allergies, chronic sluggish diseases. A really good specialist perfectly understands the limits of applicability of homeopathic remedies and, if necessary, will convince the patient to go to the hospital. If the body has a chance to defeat the disease on its own, a homeopathic doctor can help take advantage of this chance. If not — a visit to this specialist will only worsen the situation.
A conscious and balanced decision to be treated by a homeopath has the right to life, in the end everyone is responsible for his own health and chooses how to be treated. But supporters of homeopathy should understand that official medicine has methods of treatment, the effectiveness of which has been confirmed by clinical trials. Whereas homeopaths can only offer sugar balls and pseudo-scientific theories.
