Protein in the human body: important functions and content in foods

It is impossible to live without water, air, and without protein the body cannot function at all. Each organ and system has a protein that is necessary for growth and development. What we eat affects us, how many vitamins, microelements, useful substances enter the body, and this is what health is promised to us.

The functions of proteins are diverse, each type of this compound in the body affects its own habitat. Protein in the human body takes part in growth processes, which is most important for full development, and also provides the process of replication of the molecular compositions of DNA / RNA.

Do you want to lose weight? Protein will help you lose weight, build muscle, grow hair, make your skin silky and well-groomed.

Let's define what a protein is

Protein is also called proteins or polypeptides. Protein in the human body – This is an organic substance containing amino acids that are connected in a specific chain and form peptide bonds. In the human body, the protein code is determined by DNA.

Proteins are divided into many types, each can differ in structure and orientation. Basically, protein has 20 different amino acids in its composition. 8 amino acids cannot be synthesized in the body, so their replenishment lies entirely with food.

These 8 amino acids are called essential, vital: valine, leucine, isoleucine, methionine, tryptophan, lysine, threonine, phenylalanine.

Protein functions for the human body

There is a protein in every cell of our body, it is necessary for many processes occurring in the body, primarily for building DNA, for breaking down fats. Consider the main functions of the protein:

  • The protective function of the body is explained by the work of the immune system, which, when negatively impacted, begins to produce antibodies, which are also proteins.
  • protein plays a special role for blood clotting –fibrinogen;
  • proteins transport substances, components: for example, hemoglobin, which carries oxygen;
  • protein in the human body nourishes the fetus in the mother's womb: egg protein – albumin and milk protein – casein are called reserve proteins;
  • hormones – these are also proteins or a product of their connecting chain;
  • muscle contraction in the body is provided by actin and myosin proteins;
  • In order for the body to build connective tissue, collagen protein is needed.

Proteins or enzymes ensure the flow of such processes as respiration, metabolism, digestion. Rhodopsin – it is a light-sensitive protein that provides the visual process – the image on the retina is formed with its help. Elastin – the protein that allows blood vessels to work is contained in the walls.

Protein Varieties and Benefits

The source of entry into the body divides the protein into: vegetable and animal. Many people ask the question: what is more useful and safer? Plant-derived protein is more quickly and easily absorbed by the body, but animal-derived protein is more beneficial due to the increased amount of components needed by the body.

Specialists recommend not limiting yourself to taking only plant foods, or only animal origin. There should be harmony and a golden mean in everything, especially in nutrition.

Foods containing animal protein: meat (beef, rabbit, veal, pork), fish, dairy products, eggs. Plant-based protein foods: cereals, whole grains, soybeans, nuts, legumes (peas, beans, lentils), fruits – apples, pears, currants. In order to increase the nutritional benefits, it is better to combine legumes, meat and dairy products and grains during one meal.

If kidney disease, kidney failure, for example, or liver dysfunction is observed, protein intake should be limited. A special diet is prescribed by a doctor who will recommend in detail: how to eat, what is better to eat and in what quantities.

Protein in the human body is especially important if there is constant physical activity in order to build muscle tissue faster. It is also shown to use protein for girls when losing weight, so that more calories are spent on digestion than when obtained from protein foods.
