Александр Туркевич: Я делаю то, что мне нравится, и не иду на компромисс со своей совестью

The AMWC International Congress of Anti-Aging Medicine brings together the best aesthetic medicine specialists from all over the world in Monaco every year.

Estet-portal.com acted as an information partner of the congress, in which leading industry experts shared their opinions on the most relevant topics.

Special  for estet-portal.com dermatovenereologist, oncologist, candidate of medical sciences, associate professor of the department of dermatology and venereology of the Lviv Medical University, professor of dermatovenereology of the University of Rome «J. Marconi» Alexander Turkevich spoke about his personal attitude to brands, the AMWC congress and such important things as truth, flattery and criticism.

Is Alexander Turkevich a brand?

А.Т.: I somehow didn't think about being a brand. I feel responsible for myself, but I really didn’t think about whether I like or dislike being a brand. It's very simple: I just do what I like.

I do what I think is right and I say what I think is right. I do what I like and don't compromise my conscience.

А.Т.: And I understand very well that there are often people who try to use it to their advantage, try to manipulate, but I just try to abstract from it. I see where I should go, and I go there, and everything else remains somewhere on the sidelines.

Personal style and favorite brands: what do you prefer to wear

You always look very stylish. How do you choose your style?

AT: You know, again, I didn't think about it. But everything is very simple here: it is exactly the same as a relationship with a woman – you just have to feel and be yourself.

Do you have any favorite fashion brands? If yes – what?

А.Т.: Honestly, I don't have any favorite brands. There are things I like, there are things I don't like. For example, I can't imagine myself wearing anything from Galliano, it's not mine.

At my age, it would be strange to look like a clown at 50. I like Etro, Armani, but I don't get hung up on brands, I don't really care. If the thing is from the Zara store and it will go to me – I will wear it exactly the same.

It's just that Armani still suits me a little more than Zara. I don’t have any kind of brand-mania, I should like clothes, and I should feel comfortable in them. Sometimes I feel comfortable in jeans, sometimes – in a suit, but more often, of course, in a suit.

And here's the story with my butterflies: I wanted to wear them for many years, but I put on a bow tie, realized that I looked like a jerk, and took it off.

Then at some point I put the bow tie back on and realized that even if I look like a jerk – I don't care at all, I like it. And from now on I have a collection of about 50 ties, but I just don’t wear them, because I almost always wear bow ties, because I feel so good about myself. And I always do what I feel comfortable with.

Does the AMWC Congress differ from other congresses in some way?

А.Т.: It differs by its size, and by the fact that different novelties are presented at the event every year, but, in principle, for me, any congress is a congress.

How do you choose the topics of the reports you present at the AMWC?

А.Т.: You know, I don't select them, I have some ideas and I just share them with the organizers.

This is what happens at the congress in Odessa, and it is the same here. If these are good ideas – they are accepted, for example, as a session with transgender people. By and large, nothing new, everyone knew about it, but it just turned out that everyone was afraid to say it out loud.

For something to be good or brilliant, it must be simple. All complex things are already a priori not good.

Therefore, I broadcast those things that I think about, that is, some of my thoughts. If they like – they are accepted, and then I absolutely do not care.

Criticism, flattery and truth: how does Dr. Turkevi feel about them

How do you feel about criticism?

AT: I have absolutely negative attitude towards her, like any self-confident man. (Joke)

How do you feel about flattery?

A.T.: You know, if she's so hidden that I can't see her – I will at least appreciate the flatterer for his professionalism. If this is undisguised flattery – my attitude will be negative.

How do you feel about the truth?

A.T.: Absolutely positive. I have a rule: tell only the truth. And,  accordingly, I demand this from my partners, interlocutors and everyone else with whom I communicate.
