Ботулотоксин: эффективное и безопасное средство лечения гипергидроза

Hyperhidrosis – a pathological condition characterized by excessive sweating due to dysregulation of the parasympathetic nervous system. Depending on the location, there are such forms of hyperhidrosis as axillary, palmar, plantar, as well as hyperhidrosis of the face and head.

Excessive sweating can significantly impair the quality of life, and the use of effective and safe methods for eliminating hyperhidrosis is a topical section of modern cosmetology.

In the treatment of hyperhidrosis, botulinum therapy is widely used today – an injection technique that involves the local use of botulinum toxin to affect the human sweat glands.

How does botulinum toxin reduce the symptoms of hyperhidrosis

Botulinum toxin is a neurotropic mediator. Its specific interaction with axon receptors of cholinergic neurons leads to inhibition of the release of acetylcholine into the synaptic cleft. The latter is the main mediator in the parasympathetic nervous system, and, acting on the receptors of the sweat, lacrimal and bronchial glands, causes an increase in their secretory activity.

Thus, the principle of using botulinum toxin in the treatment of hyperhidrosis becomes clear: local injections of the drug into the appropriate area of the body, for example, the armpit in axillary hyperhidrosis, cause a decrease in sweating by blocking excessive parasympathetic stimulation of the sweat glands.

The main steps of the procedure for the treatment of hyperhidrosis with botulinum toxin

Before direct injection of botulinum toxin preparations into the area of excessive sweating, it is recommended to perform the Minor test, which consists in applying Lugol's aqueous solution or iodine to the area of hyperhidrosis, for example, the armpit, and then spraying starch locally. To achieve the greatest information content of the sample, it is important to apply starch after the complete drying of the Lugol solution or iodine. In this case, sweating will be accompanied by staining of starch.

This manipulation is carried out in order to determine the location of hyperhidrosis as accurately as possible and limit the area of influence of botulinum toxin. After the Minor test, it is necessary to proceed with the introduction of botulinum toxin: the drug is injected intradermally, using the thinnest needles. Thus, the use of intradermal injections of botulinum toxin preparations is an effective and safe way to eliminate excessive sweating in hyperhidrosis.
